I'd like to collect various recipes for people who lived in Perry County, particularly those who lived here in the 1800's.   If you have a much loved family recipe, please feel free to submit it.  With the recipe, please submit:

-  your name

- the full name (including maiden name) of the person whose recipe it was;

- birth and death dates of that person;

- where that person lived in Perry County;

- any family stories associated with the recipe;

Who's Recipe

Aunt Nell's Orange Cookies

1 cup of shortening
2 cups of sugar
2 eggs
Mix juices and grated rind of 2 oranges
1 cup of buttermilk
4 cups of flour (or a little more if needed)
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon soda

Bake at 375 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes

Icing
1 lb of powdered sugar
juice and rind of 1 orange
Pour over cookies and let set till cool

 

Nell Cooper.

born 07 April 1926.  Was born and raised in Beardstown, Perry County, Tennessee.  Then moved to New York later in life.  She passed this recipe down 2 more generations after her.
