Perry County, Tennessee

Signatures

This page came to mind when I was researching my own ancestors.  Many times, I do not have a photo of my ancestor, particularly the people who lived before 1880 or so.  So I will try and collect a signature of my ancestor.

Signatures can be taken from any original document.  The document (or photocopy of the original document) can be scanned, and then the image would be "cropped" to take only the signature.  Check your genealogy files and look for signatures of persons who lived in Perry County and were born before 1930.

If you are not sure of how to "crop" the signatures out of the document, please feel free to e-mail me a scanned image of the document and I can crop it and post it on the web.

Thank you!  Jan Monnin, your Perry County Coordinator.

Turner, John W

Taken from a letter dated June 20, 1893.  It is on letterhead of the Saltillo Male and Female Academy where he was principal. This scan is from a whole series of copies of letters that
Grandpa John sent to his wife, Mollie Gobelet during the
time they were courting, and also some after they were
married.

I have included the letterhead on this one, as I have been
unable to find any information on this academy (which I
believe was actually in Wayne Co). John taught school
for many years, and was also the owner of the Linden Mail
for some time.
