1818, county unknown. He married Ellen Duncan. Theymoved to
Independence, Mo in 1837. They had nine children, onedaughter and

Trying to find the Cherokee Indian blood in our
family tree. It wassaid that Annie Laura Benson was as much as 1/2
NativeamericanIndian, (Cherokee), and she would have been my
grandmother. Herfather's name was W.E. Benson, born in 1810 in South
Carolina. Mygrandmother, Annie Laura Benson was born in 1878, and
married intothe Norman family that settled in and around Union City,
SouthCarolina, and Dickson County, Tennessee from early 1700's
through1900's.

I am researching my
GGGGGG Grandfather, Joseph Copeland who moved toEast TN. in 1783 with
brothers William & James. They settled on 640acres, 7 miles north of
Danridge on the south side of the FrenchBroad River. According to
newspaper article in Knoxville Gazette onOct.12,l793, "On the 3rd,, a
party of Indians, consisting of30,plundered the house of Mr.Copeland
on the South bank of the FrenchBroad, the family only a few minutes
before passed over to the Northside and were eye witnesses to their
number and depredation".I have obtained the will of Joseph Copeland,
written on 10Aug.l799living in Jefferson CO.TN.I would appreciate any
information from anyone that can furtherassist me in my research of
the Copeland Family. I will be most happyto share all the information
I have about the Copeland Family ofTennessee.

I am seeking information
about a JOHN COSSON arriving in 1752 fromEngland and moved to
Washington Co. after the Rev. War. He receivedland there in 1783 for
his military service. He married a woman namedMargaret and had 10
children. He later became a Presbyterian ministerand was supposedly
one of the founders of what later becameWashington College. He died
