Samuel and Winnie MEALS were in Jefferson Co TN before 1796 and wereprobably there with COFFMAN'S and LEGG'S. It is believed that theywere members of Bent Creek Baptist Church which was located inJefferson Co then, but now in Hamblen Co TN. The First BaptistChurch, Whitesburg, TN organized as the Bent Creek Baptist Church, 12June 1785. Was this church in Whitesburg? I have heard through oral history that I am the eigth or ninthgeneration descendant of a Native American Cherokee by the name ofNathan Kirkland. JACOB LOCH/HOLE/LOUGH

Jacob LOCH/HOLE/LOUGH, appears on the Militia List in 1800 for Capt.Copeland's Co. He is also listed on Taxable Personal Property forCapt. Copeland in 1800. Records of Jeff Co Order Book 1801-1807,dated 1801, shows a Bill of sale from Job Combs to Jacob Lough was proved in Court and recorded. It wasregistered Oct. 20th, 1801 and Dec. 22, 1801. This was for 10 acres,house and improvements, Thomas Combs was a witness. Vol E, pg 221, Myunderstanding is that this land was along the French Broad River. TheLough family moved on to Barren Co Ky by 1810. They also supposidlylived near Bristol, TN.

James MCELWEE fought at the battle of Kings Mountain with the groupfrom the Watauga Settlement. Records at the Nat. Park there verifythis. What I cannot find is verification of his residence at or nearthe Watauga Settlement. 10 May 1781 he married Nancy JOHNSTON at theWatauga Settlement. He moved to a location near present dayKnoxville, they had 12 children. Nancy died in 1808 and James marriedFeruby CANNON in 1811. They had 3 children. My ancester Julia RatherMCELWEE married Charles Love KING. Charles and Julia settled inMcMinn County. I can find little information about Feruby CANNON. She may have come from York, SC.
