I am attempting to learn more about my African American ancestors. My father was Alfred Lewis born supposedly in Rutherford CountyTennessee in 1878. His father's name was Bedford and his mother wasSallie Butler. Bedford was a slave. I know nothing else about mygrandparents. The farthest back I have traced is Robert FieldsSWEENEY(12/13/1822-5/3/1907). He married A woman namedSarah(7/14/1822-6/8/1891). They had a son together named WilliamGreen SWEENEY(9/24/1844-12/14/1911). William married Mary Hester(CARVER) SWENNEY(1/26/1841-4/23/1911). I am trying to find any information on my great great grandmother. The only name I have is Louisa Jane NEWMAN. She was reportedly afull-blood Tsali (Cherokee), from the Tennessee area. She married mygg grandfather, Younger WARDRIP. She was given up for adoptionsometime in the 1850 era and was adopted by a white man with the lastname of NEWMAN. Also reported to me was that she had a sister orsister-in-law living with her named Palestine DAVIS. I would like toknow how I can find any information on her. Is there a way for mefind her? The only other information I have on her is that she wassupposely living in Sample KY when she married my gg grandfather. Ihave not been able to find her anywhere other than having a copy ofthe marriage bond. Consent was given by a John LASLIE for them toget married. I also have a picture of her in her later years.
