I am looking for any help on my ancestors. It has always been told inour family that my g-grandmother was full blooded Cherokee and thather father was a Tribal Leader. Her name was Dora Lee ATKINSONb.12-20-1871 in Clay Co. Tenn., d.3-27-1949 in Smith Co. Tenn. Dorawas the Daughter of Samuel ATKINSON b.1843 d.1924 and Sally BRUMMETTb.1847 d.1911. Dora married Henry Charles BOWMAN(his 2nd marriage)on6-16-1886 in White Co. Tenn. Henry was b.1-17-1850 in Iowa d.1924 inSmith Co. Tenn. He is also said to be full blooded indian. The nameATKINSON is spelled in my mothers bible as ATKANS but on all otherrecords it is spelled ATKINSON. Henry had 7 children by his firstwife (Harriett BALLOU who died in child birth) and 13 children byDora ATKINSON. Henry BOWMAN and Dora raised all of the children inSmith Co. Tenn.
