My mothers maiden name is MARTIN, her fathers name is Charles B.MARTIN born Feb.6,1881 and died August 1961. Her mother was Ida JaneSISEMORE born Sept. 17 1884 died Aug 1949. I believe they married inJohnson City Tn. My mother Joyce Louise Raney was also born inJohnson City on May 7, 1925 and was the last child born after 9brothers, any information would be greatly appreciated. GOSHEN, SMITH

I am researching my husbands SMITH family. They died in Arkansas butmigrated in from other southern states. On all the censuses we haveread, his grandmother, born about 1864 to 1868, is listed as beingfrom Tennessee. "Grandfather John Smith, born 1864 to 1868, marrieda little Indian girl named Goshen" is all I have been told. They bothdied in 1897, perhaps of smallpox. I was told that my great grandfather George Richardson was married toAmanda Elnore Glover. George was supposed to have been a fullblooded Cherokee and Amanda was supposed to have been 1/2. According to the 1820 Census for Rutherford county myG-G-G-grandfather owned 9 slaves. They were not listed by name butby age. In the 1860 Census there are many former slaves listed bythe last name of WHITE. In the 1820 Census a male slave is notlisted that would be old enough to father any children. Died August 19, 1884....buried in Brushy Cemetery next toHarco Baptist Church in Saline County, Illinois. He was Captain ofone of the three Companies, in Franklin County Illinois, serving inthe Black Hawk Indian War..1832. Nero's sons wereObediah- born February 27, 1848 who married Francis Smith on June 6,1905; and John born in Illinois. Joseph Daniel's son was Oscar Dean WEST-born in Perry County Illinois May 3, 1899 who married Mary BelleDorris on February 17, 1924. Oscar and Mary were my parents. Years after my grandmother, Goldie Louise WATKINS BARNHILL(1891-1979), m. Jack BARNHILL (d. abt. 1937)passed away, I came intopossession of some of her things. One item was a page torn from achurch program. On the border she had penned, "Sam Davis was mygrandmother's first cousin." Samuel DAVIS (1842-1863)rode withColeman's Scouts during the War Between The States and was hanged bythe Union in Pulaski, TN. I know very little about my grandmother'sfamily. She was born and died in GA. She had a brother namedJoe/Joseph who had a son named August. Her maternal grandmother was aGOFF from Lugoff, SC.
