Stewart County,
Tennessee Records Availability
Stewart County records are
remarkably intact, despite erroneous stories of many records having been lost
when the courthouse was burned by Federal troops in 1862. Most county functions were suspended during
the Civil War, except for deeds and marriages.
Here are the county records that
have survived since the countys formation in 1803 some of these records have
been transcribed or extracted for this web site. Original records are at the Stewart County
Archives and at the Stewart County Courthouse in Dover. Microfilmed copies of some records are at the
Stewart County Public Library and the Tennessee State Library and Archives.
