Background:Stophel Cemetery In Front of the Dam

LONESTAR CEMETERY located off 36S (John B. Dennis Hgwy)
on 346 W in Sullivan Garden area of Kingsport, Tn 37660. The information was
copied on November 1, 2003. It is located literally on the side of the road.
Although there is a sign, there is no entrance, the graveyard is entirely open
along the road while fenced off on the backside toward Bay's Mtn and on both
ends. The cemetary sign itself is on the western end. There are approx. 240
countable graves with possibly more which are unmarked. The cemetary exists
amid rolling hills and farmland with a beautiful view of the mountain,along
with the view of the Bailey subdivision. What was once considered rural, is
now becoming congested with the influx of new homes. Located almost centrally
in the graveyard, are two large cedar trees. Along with a peaceful feeling,
there is a faint wisper of cedar scent. Although it is kept mown, there
are signs of less than discreet mowing, it has taken it's toll on some of the
stones. Some are chipped, cracked, a couple are completely off the base, and
some are tilting and uneven. The stones range from upright markers (lg/sm),
flat markers, military markers, funeral home markers, and homemade markers.....
I have started the rows at the cemetary sign, starting at the road with row
#1 etc. possible graves are noted, as well as approx. ft. where there seems
empty spaces.

She further stated in conversation that her Grandmother Nancy Cox Steadman is buried beside John, although there is no stone or other marker to verify that at this time.
