Kristi Moffitt
Like many professional researchers, genealogy is both my vocation and my avocation. I began researching at the tender age of sixteen nearly eleven years ago. Since that time I have performed countless acts of volunteer research as well as over one hundred professional research reports. Recently I have completed the strict requirements set forth by the Board for Certification of Genealogists, which will allow me to apply for the title of Certified Genealogist (CG). I uphold and honor the standards set forth by the BCG. I also belong to the Association of Professional Genealogists and I am a current member of Genealogy Pro.
I have done extensive research in the state of Tennessee. I have experience with all forms of research material including microfilm, microfiche, and original handwritten documents. I have done transcriptions, extractions, and abstractions of original documents. My research experience includes several trips to the Tennessee State Library and Archives where I have had much success in resolving complex-evidence case studies. I am familiar with the holdings of the Salt Lake Family History Library and have employed their microfilm rental service on occasion. I frequently use the Internet and I am very familiar will the current versions of the following software programs, Personal Ancestral File (PAF), Family Tree Maker (FTM), and AncestryView. I am a full subscriber to Ancestry.com, Genealogy.com, HeritageQuest.com, and The Ellis Island Foundation. I have also operated my own web site for the last two years (GenSearch.org). I am currently working to offer web design for personal family history web sites in the future. My goal in this endeavor is to help as many people as I can to post their family histories online so that family connections can be made across the globe. I have conquered some seemingly endless brick walls with the help of the Internet and I have no doubt that it can be a powerful influence for good in the world of genealogy.
I am available to do research for a fee for any county in the State of Tennessee. I perform onsite research where necessary and will utilize all of the local repositories to thoroughly complete the report. Each research report is tailored to the individual needs of the client and therefore it is difficult to give an accurate quote without the details of the search before me. However, I most often charge an average of $35 per hour with a four hour minimum. This rate could be as low as $15 per hour or as high as $65 per hour depending on the task at hand and the travel involved. My hourly wage is set per research hour, there is no additional charge for the time I spend typing up the actual research report. I also perform specific document retrieval services for a minimal fee.
