My paternal grandfather is Robert Edward South Sr. son of James Edward South. My
paternal grandmother is Ollie Virginia Moore daughter of Nathan T. Moore and unknown.
Ollie was b. 3 June 1903 in Tennessee and d. 11 July 1961 in Bristol, TN. My paternal gr
grandmother is Sarah Louvena Moore daughter of Floyd Moore and Virginia Jones. Venie was

My gr grandfather was JAMES EDWARD SOUTH. He married Mary C. Crumley Oct. 16,1881 and
Sarah L. Moore on Jan.8, 1897. His grave site is at the Paperville United Methodist Church
Cemetary on Church Circle off the Paperville Road and Old Jonesborough Road. It has a flat
stone with the following inscription: "JAMES E. SOUTH BORN DEC 23, 1855 DIED APR. 6,
1904 A precious one has gone. A voice we loved is stilled. A place is vacant in our home.
Which never can be filled.". The date 1855 is wrong, he was born in 1862. At the
Sullivan County Library in Blountville I found from the 1880 Census that James was a
Farmhand living with L. G. Dryden and Eliza I. Dryden. He was age 18 in that census. Its
possible he may have been orphaned and/or was living with neighbors or relatives. In the
1900 Census James was listed as a Carpenter. He and his wife Venie had been married 3
years. Children listed: Sarah 17, Kenni 12, Robert 2,Ollie born Feb 1900. Robert is my
grandfather.

Searching for Adeline MCMILLAN who married probably James W. BERRY. Their first

Berry's mother. Alonzo had uncle or brother who was Court Martialed and then pardoned by

RYAN, DULANY, ROGERS..My information indicates that Elizabeth DULANY married Greenberry
ROGERS 18 Jun 1838 on the DULANY Farm, in Bluntville. One of their sons, G.B. Jr. kept a
journal, and in it he mentioned that "mother was a Ryan." Not sure of this

WEBB, JACOB and relations. Seeking parents and ancestors of NANCY M. WEBB (b. 1863 ,
Texas). In 1880 Texas census, at age of 17 (married with one child), Nancy said that both
of her parents were from Missouri. Old county geneaological resource indicates that
"the Webb family" was from Cole Co., Missouri. A JACOB WEBB ("probably born
12-25-1798 in Sullivan Co., TN" and in Cole Co., Missouri "before 1830") is
reported to have come from Cole County to Montague Co., TX, with his second wife,

Andrew Crockett was a J.P. in Sullivan County TN in late 1790's, andhis daughter
married Jacob Work. Does anyone know about this AndrewCrockett and his family? Jacob and
(brother or father) Robert Workwere in Sullivan as early as 1794 per land records (NC and
local). Another brother, Joseph does not appear in records until Roane Co.,TN in 1804-5
through 1822. Any information on Andrew and others isappreciated.

William NORRIS 1838 -1894, married Emaline WHITE 1842 - 1919. I amlooking for their

I have found reference to my GGGGrandfather WILLIAM COPELAND (1754-1822) and
GGGrandfather JOHN COPELAND (1775-1853) stating they were both living in Sullivan County
in 1796 and 1797. However, I can not find any other references. William was a three year
veteran in the "Virginia Line" in the Revolutionary Army. Any other hard data
regarding either WILLIAM or JOHN would be appreciated!

I have been told that my family is of Indian descent.However, there is a dispute as to
whether or not we are Cherokee or Chicasaw. With the elder generation gone now, no one can

Richard Lonnie Dowdy left Bristol, Sullivan County, Tennessee by train for Springfield,
Greene County, Missouri about 1883 with a stallion for a man named CARR. Richard was an
excellent horseman and Carr said he wouldn't take the horse without Richard to break it.
Later Richard returned and got the rest of his family in Bristol: Nicholas, Lillie Ann,
Gaston, Wennie, Stokes Lawrence, Morris, and Aaron DOWDY. Also, he brought his married
sister and her husband, Amelia Dowdy and William Griffin.

Trying to find documentation for the residence of Robert Samuel BRASHEAR during the
Rev. War. Family histories state R.S. and family moved from NC to Sullivan Co. before
1779. Son Samuel joined militia late 1780 age 16. A John Adair states in pension testimony
that he served at Fort Christian under Capt. Samuel Brashear in 1780. Suspect this was the
father, Robert Samuel, who, as son of Robert may have also been called Samuel. Alderman

Does anyone have any idea of the family of George ADAMS mentioned in Tenn. Passports
who is living on Reedy Creek. This would be early in Tenn. history. People seeking to go
from N.C. to Tenn (as you know ) sometimes required a passport to enter Indian land. I

I need help locating the birth dates of Margaret Ann "Maggie" CRUMLEY and her

I am seeking information on the ancestors and descendants of the Andrew and Rebecca
MCCLELLAN(D) family of Sullivan County. They left the county in 1799 and settled in Obey's
Creek in what would become Scott Co., Va. Andrew listed eight children in his will in
1819: George, Josiah, Moses, Samuel, Becky Casteel, Mary Lane, and Rodah. Samuel married
Rebecca LANE and they were blessed with ten children one of whom to be named Andrew J.
MCCLELLAN who married Susanna Snavely Mcconnell in Scott Co., Va. Any help will be much

John STYRES is listed in the 1820-30 (?) census index for Sullivan County, while his
father (?) Henry lived in Rhea Co., Tn. in 1809, later moving to Alabama and possibly Ohio
briefly. Henry's daughters (presumed), Anna and Elizabeth, married Moses Trimble, son of
Robert or Richard (?) and Abraham Atchley. Styre descendants lived in both Arkansas from
1830's-early 1850's and Texas, 1850's. This has been a very difficult line to trace.

Josephine Lynn CRUMLEY. They were both married to Jacob Henry MCCLELLAND. Margaret Ann
CRUMLEY m. October 16, 1879 and Josephine Lynn CRUMLEY m. August 7, 1885 after Margaret
Ann's death. Jacob Henry MCCLELLAND, s/o Robert Wallace MCCLELLAND and Dolly Engert
(GREGORY) MCCLELLAND, b. December 19, 1852 in either Rockbridge Co., VA or Washington Co.,
VA d. September 19, 1916 in Sullivan Co., TN. Both of these marriages took place in

or Sullivan Co., TN, and that might be a source for finding these dates. I am also

I am trying to uncover parents/background of James SPENCER (ca1760/70 - 14 May 1833,
Scott County). Per "Early Settlers of Lee County and Adjacent Counties", James
first appears in Washington Co, VA in 1801 on the north fork of the Holston. He
subsequently moved to Bean Station in TN, then Sullivan Co, TN on Reedy Creek before
finally moving to Scott Co, VA sometime before 1822. He married Elizabeth BOLTON, d/o
William and Jaley BOLTON and had 9 children incl my great(3)grandmother, Rebecca SPENCER
who married Samuel G. PENDLETON. Any information on James' parents or earlier background

Searching for parents of Elizabeth Treadway( b 1773, VA--d aft 1850 Pike Co, MO) who
married John Treadway(b 1768, MD--d 1839,IL). John Treadway's father, William Treadway,
and his brothers Aaron and Moses migrated from MD to VA. William and Aaron continued to
western NC (later E Tenn). William settled in Wash. Co. VA from 1775/1784. He moved to
Sullivan Co, NC.(later Tenn). William was an extensive land owner in Sullivan Co. In 1769
he had a son named John Treadway. John married Elizabeth GRIFFIN abt 1790 and settled in
Mt. Sterling, Montgomery Co, Kty by 1797. In 1835 he moved with his family to German Twp,
near Columbus, in Bartholomew Co, IN. After John Treadway's death in 1839, Elizabeth
GRIFFIN Treadway lived with her son Franklin J. Treadway in IN until about 1850. Then she
moved to live with her son, Washington Treadway in Pike Co, MO. Elizabeth Griffin was born
in 1773 in VA. She either met and married John Treadway in Sullivan Co, NC or Montgomery
Co, Kty. Thank you.
