Rev. Samuel Patton, D.D.

The Rev. Samuel Patton. D. D. was born in South Carolina, January 27, 1797. He was of Scotch-Irish descent. A Methodist minister for the Holston Conference, he was a recognized as a champion of Holston Methodism. About the year 1850 the faculty and trustees of Emory and Henry College conferred on the well - merited title of Doctor of Divinity. On November 27, 1823, he married to Miss Nancy Morrison, of Sullivan County, Tenn. They reared eight children, four sons and four daughters, to adult hood. James O. Patton, a druggist, lived at Montgomery, Ala. Henry T. Patton, a business man resided at Harriman, Tenn. John W. Patton practiced medicine and preached locally at Murphy, N.C. George Patton lived at Kingsport, Tenn. where he was physician and a consistent Methodist. Elizabeth married James E. Carter. They lived in Knoxville, Tenn. where they attended the Broad Street M.E. Church. On August 1, 1854 he died at the home of a friend, W. G. Brownlow. Excellent notices of this good man appeared in the Knoxville Whig and the St. Louis Christian Advocate. He is buried at Morrison Chapel Church Cemetery, Kingsport, Tenn.

Notes: Nancy Morrison, is the daughter of Peter Morrison. Peter Morrison is who Morrison City north of Kingsport and south of the Virginia line is named. He is buried at the Morrison City Chapel of U.M.C. Cemtery

Note: Rev. Patton married Nancy Morison, the sister of my gggf. Peter Morison had an only son, George. George had 13 children, including Nancy (ie Nancy being grand-daughter of Peter). This family has always spelled their name with '1r' - MORISON. Submitted by Evan
