Prune Cake

(D. Norman)

2 cups flour

1/2 tsp. salt

1 tsp. soda

1 tsp. cloves

1/2 tsp. nutmeg

2 tsp. cinnamon

2 tsp. cocoa

1/3 cup butter or shortening

1 cup sugar

1 egg

1 cup prune pulp

3/4 cup prune juice

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 cup raisins

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Sift flour, spices, soda cocoa, and salt three times. Cream butter and sugar, add egg and beat well. Cook prunes without sugar in plenty of water. Cool, remove seeds, and cut into pieces. Add pulp to creamed mixture, add vanilla, fold in portions of the flour mixture, and portions of the prune juice, alternately, until all are combined. Beat until smooth and fold in raisins and nuts. Turn into a greased and papered loaf pan. Bake in slow oven, 325 degrees, for 1 hour. Cool in pan.
