Feather Cake w/ Pineapple Frosting

3/4 cup butter or shortening

1 1/4 cup sugar

4 egg yolks

1/2 cup water

2 tsp. baking powder

4 egg whites

1 tsp. vanilla

1/2 tsp. lemon

2 1/2 cups cake flour

Cream butter. Add sugar gradually, then egg yolks beaten until thick. Sift flour once, measure, add baking powder, and sift three times. Add flour and water alternately to first mixture, beating batter hard. Add flavoring. Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites last. Bake in sheet or layers in moderate oven.

Put together with the following icing: To one cup grated pineapple, add 1 tbsp. lemon juice, and enough sifted confectioners sugar to make a frosting that will stay in place.
