Crumb Cake

(Mrs. Tapper)

2 cups flour

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup shortening

1 tsp. salt

Rub these together as for pie crust. Take out 1 cup for crumbs to be spread on top of cake.

To the remainder, add:
1 cup sour milk or buttermilk

1/2 tsp. soda dissolved in a little milk

1/2 tsp. each cinnamon, cloves, lemon, vanilla

1 cup seedless raisins rubbed into the flour mixture.

Bake in large flat pan, sprinkling the crumbs over top. Bake slowly. Do not frost.
