ROMACK

My Grandmother Martha "Mattie" J. Romack was born 17 Dec 1873 in Trousdale Co. Her father John was listed in the 1880 census living in the 8th King's district. Our records state that Martha was born in Taylorsville. My question is wasn't there a small community named Taylorsville in Trousdale for a brief period of time, or will I have to conclude that she was born in Taylorsville, Wilson County?

AVERITT/AVERY

I am researching my AVERITT/AVERY line. I am confused on the Peter Avery/Averitt that were in Trousdale County, TN. There is the Peter Avery that is connected to the Avery Trace, which I do not believe is the Peter Averitt b. 1765 that is married to four women. One of his wives was Elizabeth Clay and they had a son Peter, Jr. b June 7, 1829. I have read that Peter, Sr & Peter, Jr both died in Feb 1842, however, with the children I have with Peter, Jr. this is not possible. Can anyone assist me in getting this lineage correct.

I am looking for information on my ggg-grandmother's family. Her maiden name was MORGAN. Her father's name was James Harvey Morgan, originally of White Co. At the end of the Civil War, she and my ggg-grandfather, William Alexander Lowry, Jr. lived in Trousdale Co. for a time. He had taken the oath of allegiance after being a prisoner at Rock Island Prison. Because he had taken the oath, his life was in danger in his home county (Warren.) They came to Trousdale county for safety until the end of the war. Because she was a Morgan, I am assuming they came here to stay with her relatives. I suspect that one of the Morgan's in Hartsville was her father's brother. I would love any information I could get about the Morgans of Hartsville or the surrounding area.

PARKER, GREGORY

I have recently located several old tintype photos at my mother's house without names on them. There is a note in the box that says Parker and Gregory relatives. They came from the home of my GGgrandmother, Clarence Gregory Porter. Her father was Elias Enoch (Tint) Gregory (s/o John and Eliza Gregory)(John is s/o Ambrose, who is s/o Bry, etc.) Her mother was Tabitha Parker Gregory, daugther of Jesse and Celina Parker of Parker Branch, Cato. Tabitha died young at age 28 and her 3 little daughters were raised by their Parker Grandmother (Celina Patterson Parker). These photos are supposedly of the Parker family and Gregory family. Siblings of Elias Enoch (Tint) Gregory are Thomas Idle, Wiley (Dock), Ukley, and Julia and they might be in some of these photos. They are scanned and anyone who can help me try and identify these photos, I'll be glad to send them to you by email. They appear to be made in the time period 1850-1875.

SHAW, BURFORD

I recently visited Trousdale, Smith and Wilson Counties researching the Shaws, Nichols, and Burfords. While there, I found the gravesites of my great great grandfather, Jeremiah Flowers Shaw (1844-1921),his wife Mary McAlister Burford (1847-1907), two sons, his wife's mother (Joyce Patterson Hardwick Burford (1814-1891) and a Major John Hawkins Burford (1795-1863) The cemetery is off Hiway 25 near Dixon Springs. It is just within Trousdale County lines near the Hartsville Nuclear Plant. It is in deplorable condition. If you didn't know where to look, you wouldn't find it, it is so overgrown with brambles and brush. The gravemarkers have all been tumbled and there are numerous footstones without corresponding headstones. My question is: Are there any organizations in the area who would lend a hand in cleaning up the cemetery and perhaps erecting a small fence around it. I would, of course, reimburse any reasonable costs. Thanks.............Gil

GILBERT

Searching for Cumberland River Branch called Rairdons Branch in my ggg grandfather's land deed 1834. His land was "on the Cumberland River" District 4 is mentioned in one deed, a later land survey shows District #5. He was Bondsman as early as 1810 in Wilson Co., Tenn. marriage. IF the Cumberland River changed, moved some would it be possible for this to be shown as what is now called, Riadon Road ?in Trousdale. This I am told is still a rural area. Gilbert is in Wilson Co., Tenn. Census from 1820 till 1850 his Will was proved in 1853. Ebenezer GILBERT b.about 1772, N.C. arrived in Tenn.?? Documents I have in Tenn. are from 1810 till his death. I heard River branches were usually named after early settlers. What does anyone know about the names of various River branches & roads in this area? Does anyone have enough old land deeds to find this Rairdon's branch mentioned elsewhere. (survey was "pole") Have names of sourrounding neighbors, if that would help someone. Linda in Kansas

RICKMAN

A Franci(e)s RICKMAN is listed as a member of Willow Grove Methodist Church in 1834. She is ID as a widow. William Harper's 1836 will (Sumner CO. TN Will Book II, p. 207) describes a boundary line running to "Francis RICKMAN'S line." A Francis RICKMAN is listed in the 1850 Haywood Co. TN census as is an Andrew Jackson RICKMAN. They would likely be mother/son, if related at all. Andrew J. is my search target. B. 1821-22 in TN. Could William RICKMAN (b. Sumner CO. 1787, s/o Mark Rickman and Mary Harper) have been husband of Francis and father of A.J.? Other males in Mark and Nathan Rickman lines ruled out as potential father of Andrew Jackson Rickman. Mark donated land for Willow Grove church in 1792. In Lavaca Co., Texas, Andrew Jackson donated land for Willow Creek Chapel and Cemetery. I have found no other Rickmans in TN producing offspring at this time. I have a gut feeling Andrew belongs in this family, even though unable to connect. The Francis/(William) potential seems last opportunity. Thanks.

STOVALL, BAILEY

I have been told I am a descendent of Bartholomew Stovall who is buried on Templow Rd. While visiting the cemetery, I found the grave. Near it was a John STOVALL & his wife, Jane BAILEY Stovall. My great-grandfather, Wyatt B. Stovall came from Trousdale County & my grandfather, George Bailey Stovall, was born in Trousdale County on August 24, 1888. I'm trying to make the connections between Wyatt back to Barhgolomew. Can anyone fill in the gaps?? I know my grandfather (Bailey) was in charge of selling the family farm years ago as it was left to about 15 different cousins. They opted to sell the farm & divide the proceeds. THANKS!!!

I am researching the surname GAMMONS. My husband's great-grandfather was Elijah GAMMONS from the Cedar Grove area east of Payne's Store on Hwy 25 in the western part of the county. He was married to a Martha WRIGHT. The 1900 Census for Trousdale County shows an Elijah as a widower with 3 sons. He had three sons - Samuel Bridgewater, George Wilson and Wilson Jenkins. MCCLANAHAN, WOODMORE, JOHNSON

Looking for info on David McCLANAHAN (d in 1930s/40s) married to a WOODMORE whose daughter Jennie Fannie (Francis?) McCLANAHAN (b 15 Apr 1881 in Bellmont, MO; d 19 Mar 1949 in Spokane, WA or Deer Park, Alberta) married John Edwin JOHNSON in 1910 in Boise, ID. I've been told David and this unknown WOODMORE were both from Hartsville, TN. They also had a son Dave McCLANAHAN who died in the flu epidemic of 1918. Somewhere back on one of these lines there's supposed to be Blackfeet and other tribe connections. Nothing confirmed so far.
