Everett,

Is this flower a Van Buren County flower?  Grown and nurtured in the soil of Van Buren County.  If it is, I would like to use it some place on the Van Buren Genealogy pages with your permission?

Everett,

Where is Stone Door?  Is it in VB?  Same request as previous.

Ladye,

Stone door is located in Grundy County Tennessee, near Beersheba Springs off of State Route 56. It is a beautiful area, very popular for hikers and rappelers. The name comes from the appearance of the great stones there; viewed from certain positions it looks very much like a door. The state manages the area.

You are welcome to use the photo, but it is not in Van Buren County, so I don't think it would be appropriate for use on the county page.

Ladye,

The flower is one which was given to my Father a few years before his death. He loved flowers and set the plant in a little garden at the back of the house. The flower has been growing in Van Buren County soil for several years now, as he died in July 1995. The flower had beautiful blossoms last summer.

Certainly you have my permission to use the photo for the purpose mentioned in your e-mail. If you are interested, I have several photos made in Van Buren County which I like, but opinions regarding photographs are varied.

Ladye,

I am honored that you would consider using my photographs on the Van Buren page. Yes, you may list my e-mail address if you wish; I don't consider that to be a problem.

As to other images, what type are you looking for? What size, format, etc.

I am attaching two phots which I think might be suitable. One is made at Beech Cove Cemetery and show stones set in a unique fashion that is not common in many areas of the country. The other is made in Rocky River Gulf and indicates the rugged nature of the area. I would think that these type photos might be of interest to persons outside this region of the country.

Please let me know your thoughts and wishes on this matter.

Everett,

Thank you.  I will also put your e-mail address with it if that is OK with you.

Amen on opinions ... are varied.  I would love to use some other photographs on the pages pertaining to VB.  I am going to try to make the time to revamp the pages.  And would appreciate using and crediting your photography.

Ladye,
Thanks for using the photo. I hope to be able to send some more for your consideration soon. I will have to get the directions from someone else before I can send them to you; I have been there only once, following someone else, and I don't know those road names.  I thought that you were with the group which went there from the Sparkmantown Community Center the afternoon that we met there, but I guess
I was mistaken.

Please don't take this as a criticism, but are you aware that the New Rocky Cemetery is located in Warren County, rather than Van Buren? Just thought that I would mention that, but I am glad that it is being listed somewhere on the Web.

Regards,
Everett

Ladye,

The attached photo is of Stony Point Cemetery. You will note the great improvement in the conditions of the cemetery. David Cook, Ray Cummings and others have made a great effort to improve the cemetery during the past several months. Note the cleanliness of the area and the concrete steps which were added to make access easier.

If you wish, you may use this photo on the Van Buren page.

Subject:         Bridge construction at Van Buren / Warren Co. line

   From:         Everett Hillis <ehillis@BLomand.Net>
     To:         Ladye Jane Hunter <ladyejane@blomand.net>

Ladye Jane,

I copied the statement below from the Caney Fork of the Cumberland under bridges.

"Goodbar: The second bridge, located about 1/4 mile above the Goodbar Mill. It was built in 1923 or 1924 by the State on Hgw. 30 from McMinnville to Spencer.  It was one of the first concrete arch bridges built in Tennessee. Truly it is a beautiful structure."
A few days ago I was given a photo of that bridge under construction, by Harold Griffith of McMinnville. His father was involved in the consturction of Highway 30 back in the 20's when the bridge was built, as noted in the statement above. As everything changes, the bridge is no longer in use. If you can find a use for the photo in the Van Buren pages, you may do so.

The photo is old, of course, and has been torn; I received only a portion of the original photo. I could re-size the image if needed.

Ladye,

I don't mean to be flooding you with photos so if you want me to stop, just let me know.

You have set up a great Van Buren page; thank you for doing so. I do appreciate the county being so well represented on the web.

The photo which I am sending was made about 1982 from the North side of my Father's property. It shows, to the left the Rocky River Community Center and on the right, the White Hill Church and cemetery. I feel that it is good in that it depicts the terrain of the area and some of the structures, as well the colors of autumn typical in this area. If you wish to use the photo on the Van Buren page, you have my permission to do so.

Ladye,

This is not of the greatest quality, but I will send it anyway. It is a photo of the Blackstone Hillis cemetery, which I made a few years ago. I don't seem to have a more current photo of the cemetery. You may use it on the Van Buren page if you wish.

Ladye,

Here is another picture from the beautiful Rocky River community of Van Buren County. I know I am biased in this regard, but I really do think that the beauty of this area is something for which to be thankful.

If you wish to use the photo for the Van Buren page, you may.

Dear Everett,

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I say again - Thank you so much for the pictures.  They are each and everyone beautiful in many aspects.

I want to take my time and get them up nicely.  I'll e-mail you each time with the URL where the picture is located on the VB site.

Don't worry about 'flooding' me with pictures.  I am so happy to have them to put up.

Glad you enjoyed the Van Buren County pages.  If you have any family pictures you want to send, send 'em with info.

Ladye Jane
