| On October 8, 1862, one of the
more deadly battles of the Civil War took place in Perryville, Kentucky.
Men from Van Buren County took part in the battle. Some survived.
We have here a photo given by Hoyte
Cook of the unveiling of a monument dedicated to the participants of
the Battle of Perryville.
On May 19, 1904 at the unveiling of the Battle of Perryville monument a group of four men posed for a photograph. These four men from Warren and Van Buren counties had participated in the battle in Perryville, Kentucky. There are four survivors of that battle in the picture. W.H. White was color bearer and John McConnell, J.C. Biles, H.L. Moffitt and Jasper Roberts were color guards of the sixteenth Tennessee Regiment, all of whom were wounded, Mr. Roberts mortally. |
