ADAIR, Victor P.   (circa 1876 - 1953)

Victor P. Adair Dies At Hospital
           Victor P. Adair, 77, retired railroad employee, died at Faulkner Springs hospital Sunday morning at 10:30 o’clock. He had been admitted to the hospital for treatment of asthma and his death was unexpected.  Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Rock Island Presbyterian Church.  John W. High officiated and burial was in Rock Island cemetery.  A native of Warren county, Mr. Adair was born November 18, 1876.  He was as son of William Adair, native of Ireland, and Sarah E. Baker Adair and he was married to Miss Annie Moffitt who died in 1947.  Mr. Adair, retired for several years, had resided with his sister, Mrs. Simpson Dunlap, for the past five years and was a member of the Presbyterian church.  Besides his sister, he is survived by another sister, Mrs. John M. Rowland, Rowland Station; two half-brothers, John C. and Zubra Adair, and a half-sister, Mrs. Joline Williams, Toledo, Ohio.  Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.

ADAMS, Edna Turner (1908 - 1990)

Monteagle resident and Warren County native, Edna Myrtle Adams, 83, died Friday in Heritage Manor after an extended illness. A homemaker and member of the Smartt Station Church of God, she was the daughter of Jim Turner and Melvina Reeder Turner. She is survived by her husband, Mercer L. Adams, Sr. of McMinnville; three daughters, Melba Jean Maggart of Lavergne; Shirley Ann McBride of Smyrna; Sandra Sue Howell of Weaver, Ala; four sons, Mercer Lee Adams, Jr. of Nashville; Charles Edwin, Thomas Clark and David Franklin Adams, all of McMinnville; two brothers, Charlie Price Turner of McMinnville; and John Loyd Turner of McMinnville; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at High's Chapel with Johnny Carr officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory. High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ADAMS, Rose Askew   (circa 1909 - 1953)

Mrs. Adams, 44, Dies In Rutherford County
               Mrs. Rose Adams, 44, sister of Lonnie Askew of McMinnville, died at her home near Murfreesboro Monday, following a long illness. Funeral rites and burial took place in Murfreesboro Tuesday afternoon with Rev. Woodrow Matlock conducted the services. Mrs. Adams was a native of  DeKalb county but had lived at Murfreesboro for almost 20 years. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Besides her brother here, she is survived by her husband, Alvin Adams, Murfreesboro; five sisters and two other brothers.

ADCOCK, I.D.  (circa 1917-2000)

I.D. Adcock, 83
         Dibrell community resident and Warren County native I.D. Adcock, 83, died unexpectedly Dec. 3 at his home.  A retired nurseryman, owner and operator of I.D. Adcock & Son Nursery, he was an honorary member of the Middle Tennessee Nurseryman Association and the Tennessee Nurseryman Association. He was a member of Dibrell Church of Christ.  The son of the late Norman and Betty Harvey Cantrell Adcock, he was preceded in death by sisters, Hannah Neal and Thelma Taylor; and brothers, Luther Adcock and James Adcock.  He is survived by his wife, Georgia Adcock; daughters, Deanna Kirby of Dibrell and Peggy Sue Siler of Kennesaw, Ga.; sons, Danny Adcock of Bridgewater, N.J., Gary Lynn and Mickey Adcock, both of McMinnville; 15 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.  Services were held Tuesday at McMinnville Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Walkup officiating. Burial followed at DeKalb Memorial Gardens in Smithville.  McMinnville Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ADCOCK, Lakyn Michele  (1996-1996)

Lakyn Michele Adcock
              Newborn Lakyn Michele Adcock died March 27 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center.  The daughter of Stan and Glenna Adcock of McMinnville, she is survived by maternal grandparents Glynn and Louise Womack of McMinnville; paternal grandparents, Joel and Shirley Adcock of McMinnville; maternal great-grandparents, Robert and Mary Alice Terry of McMinnville; maternal great-grandfather, Bryan Womack; step-great-grand- mother, Katherine Hitchcock; and maternal step-great-grandmother, Louise Jones Womack.  Private graveside services were held Saturday at Mt. View Cemetery with Jerry Reynolds officiating.  High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ADCOCK,  Lula Edna  (circa 1883-1954)

Rites Yesterday For Mrs. Adcock
        Funeral services for Mrs. Lula Edna Adcock, 71, who died Monday at 5:45 o'clock at Medical Clinic, were held yesterday at 10 a.m.  At the parlors of High Funeral Home. John W. High officiated and burial was in Mt. View cemetery.  Mrs. Adcock died following an illness of three weeks.  Mrs. Adcock, a member of the Church of Christ, resided on Viola Road. She is survived by a son, Leonard T. Adcock, who resided with his mother; a daughter, Mrs. Robert Damron, Tullahoma, and a sister, Mrs. Alda Taylor, Memphis.

ADCOCK, Virgle Mai Watson (circa 1921 - 1987)

          Services for Virgle Mai Adcock, 66, of Route 2, Rock Island, were held July 8 at the chapel of Love-Cantrell and Cope Funeral. Burial was in Whorton Springs Cemetery. Rev. David Watson, Rev. Morris Watson, Rev. Johnny Watson and Rev. Horace Snipes officiated. Mrs. Adcock died July 6 at McMinnville Health Care Center. Her husband, Wesley H. Adcock, died March 25. She was the daughter of the late Rev. F.L. Watson and Eula Bond Watson. Surviving are three daughters, Hilda Holt of McMinnville; Mrs. Ralph (Dora Elizabeth) Jeffries of Marion, Ind. And Mrs. Danny (Audrey) Burger of McMinnville; three sons, Phillip Adcock of McMinnville; Larry Adcock of Murfreesboro and Wesley Frank Adcock of Tampa, Fla.; seven brothers, Paul Watson of McMinnville; Rev. Morris Watson and Frank Watson, Jr. of McMinnville, James Watson of Smithville, Rev. David Watson of Fayetteville, Aaron Watson of Hot Springs, Ark., and Rev. Johnny Watson of Paducah, Ky. and 12 grandchildren. Love-Cantrell and Cope Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ADKINS, Columbus W. (circa 1872 - 1953)

Minister's Father Dies In DeKalb
           Columbus W. Adkins, 81, died at his home in Dowelltown, DeKalb county, Wednesday of last week, following a lingering illness. He was the father of Rev. H.C. Adkins, Baptist mission worker and minister of McMinnville.  Funeral services were held at Dowelltown Thursday and burial was in Whorton Springs cemetery.  Mr. Adkins was a  lifelong resident of DeKalb county and had lived in Whorton Springs for about 30 years.  He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Rebecca Williams Adkins; two sons, Rev. Adkins and E. F. Adkins, Smithville; a half brother and four sisters.

AKEMAN, John Walton  (1871-1952)

J. W. Akeman, 80, Dies Of Illness
              John Walton Akeman, 80-year-old retired farmer and well known Warren county citizen, died at his home at Smyrna Thursday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock following an illness of two months.  Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Smyrna Church of Christ with the minister, Silas F. Shaw, and John W. High officiating. Burial was in Smyrna cemetery.  Mr. Akeman native of Warren county, was born August 25, 1871.  He was a son of George Akeman and Martha Cartwright Akeman and was first married to Miss Thena Pettit April 2, 1902. She died December 9, 1927 and Mr. Akeman was married March 19, 1933 to Miss Mary Jaco. She survives. Mr. Akeman was a member of the Church of Christ and had been a resident of the fifth district practically all of his life.  He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Beecher Hudson, McMinnville, and a brother, George Akeman, also  of McMinnville. Arrangements were by High Funeral home.

AKEMAN, Mary Elizabeth Jaco  (????-1953)

Mrs. Akeman, 77, Buried Yesterday
           Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Akeman, widow of John W. Akeman, died at Riverview Rest Home Tuesday morning at 8:30 o'clock at Smyrna Church of Christ.  Rev. Emmett and Silas F. Shaw officiated and burial was in Smyrna cemetery. A native of Warren County, Mrs. Akeman was a daughter of John P. Jaco. Her husband died August 14, 1952. Mrs. Akeman was a member of the Campaign Church of God. She is survived by a step-son, Jim Cruise, Detroit, Mich., and a step-daughter, Mrs. Beecher Hudson, McMinnville. High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

AKERS, Lucy Ann Prudence  (1870-1952)

Mrs. J. R. Akers Dies Of Illness; Rites Set Sunday
           Mrs. Lucy Ann Prudence Akers, 81, widow of J. R. Akers, prominent Centertown citizen for a number of years, died at the Akers home in Centertown Tuesday evening at 9:30 o'clock, following an illness of several years.  Funeral services will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at the Bates Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Rev. J.E.  Powers of Manchester will officiate and burial will be in the Centertown cemetery.  Mrs. Akers was a native and lifelong resident of Warren county, born December 9, 1870. She was a daughter of James Silas Lance and Maria Elizabeth Bates Lance and she had spent most of her life in the Centertown community. Her husband was for a number of years prominently identified with the civic and political life of his community and Warren county.  He died several years ago. Mrs. Akers was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  She is survived by four sons, W.S. Akers and Lorenza Akers, Centertown, Ross Akers, Princeton, Ky., and Eula Akers, Oxford, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. J. Burr Wilson, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs. S.F. Bratcher and Mrs. Alton Davenport, Centertown, and Miss Lona Akers, who made her home with her mother at Centertown; one brother, J.B. Lance, Jonesboro, Ark., and one sister, Mrs. Matilda Michael, Centertown.

ALEXANDER, Samuel Joseph  (1879-1951)

Rites Today For S.J. Alexander
           Funeral services for Sam J. Alexander, 72, retired farmer and salesman, will be held this (Friday) afternoon at 3 o'clock at the chapel of High Funeral Home. Officiating will be Allen Phy, minister of Central Church of Christ, and burial will be in Mt. View cemetery.  Mr. Alexander died at his home on West End avenue Tuesday afternoon at 3:15 o'clock. He had been ill for a week.  Samuel Joseph Alexander was a native of Cannon county, born August 27, 1879. His parents were Jefferson Alexander and Jane Hawkins Alexander and he was married to Miss Nettie Jane Davis.  She survives.  Mr. Alexander for a number of years operated  a farm on Sparta Road and in recent years had been engaged as a salesman. He was a member of the Church of Christ.  He is survived by two sons, J.P. Alexander, McMinnville, and S.L. Alexander, Glendale, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Irving Myers, McMinnville, and Miss Marie Alexander, Glendale, Calif. Also a brother, I.P. Alexander, Campbellsville, Ky., and one sister, Mrs. Josie Jones, Okemah, Okla.  Arrangements are in charge of High's.

ALLEN, Lydia Mayfield (1866-1947)

Mrs. Lydia Allen, 80, widow of George Allen, died Saturday at her home in the first district. The funeral and burial were at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Crain Hill cemetery in Van Buren county.  Born in Van Buren county September 13, 1866, Mrs. Allen was a daughter of Jasper Mayfield and Mary Jane Hillis Mayfield; survivors include two sons, Frank Allen of McMinnville and Jack Allen of Nashville; four sisters, Mrs. Emmie Barnes of McMinnville, Mrs. Walter Sparkman of Doyle, Mrs. Ozelle Rutledge of Campaign, and Mrs Lou Groves of Laurelburg; and a brother, Jack Mayfield of this county. Arrangements by the High Funeral company.

ALLEN, Susie Geneva  (1878-1952)

Mrs. Susie Allen Dies Tuesday
          Mrs. Susie Geneva Allen, wife of E.H. Allen, died at her home at Keltonburg in DeKalb county Tuesday evening at 9:55 o'clock, following and illness of several months.   She was 73. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Keltonburg Methodist Church.   Rev. W.G. Hawkins officiated and burial was in Keltonburg cemetery.    Mrs. Allen, born  April 14, 1878 in DeKalb county, was a daughter of Thomas Jones and Frances Walker Jones and she was married August 5, 1897 to the late B.M. Cantrell. He died April 8, 1929. Mrs. Allen was married to E.H. Allen September 10, 1940 and he survives. Besides her husband, she is survived by two sons, Haskell Cantrell, McMinnville, and Clyde Cantrell, Kelton burg; two stepsons, Nathan Cantrell, McMinnville, and Thurman Cantrell; two step-daughters, Mrs. James Tramel and Mrs. John Redmon. Also a brother, James Jones, Lutz, Fla.

ALLISON, James Finis  (1856-1949)

James F. Allison, Retired Farmer, Buried Monday
          Funeral services for James Finis Allison, 93-year-old pioneer citizen and retired farmer, were conducted Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the Mt. Zion Methodist Church. Rev. William H. Moss, pastor of the First Methodist church, officiated and burial was in the Mt. Zion cemetery.  Mr. Allison died at the home of his granddaughter, Mrs.  H. A. King, on Seitz street Sunday morning at 5:50 o'clock. He had been ill some two or three months. A native of Warren county, the deceased was born February 20, 1856. He was a son of James Allison and Caroline Thaxton Allison and was married to the former Miss Esther Miller, who preceded him in death several years ago. Mr. Allison was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.  A pioneer citizen of the county, Mr. Allison was a grandson of John Thaxton, early settler of Warren county and a Revolutionary War soldier who located at Mt. Zion about 1810. The deceased is survived by one son, Hervy J. Allison of McMinnville and a granddaughter.  Another son, Poindexter Allison, died several months ago.

ANDERSON, Homer (1901 - 1963)

Homer Anderson Buried Wednesday
         Homer D. Anderson, a retired laborer, died unexpectedly at his Cedar Street residence Sunday.   Funeral services were conducted by Rufe Higgins at High's Chapel Wednesday at 10 a.m. Burial followed in Riverside Cemetery. A native of Coffee county and veteran of World war II, Mr. Anderson was the son of Mrs. Joe Lusk and the late Luther Anderson.  Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Joe Lusk; one son, Ralph Anderson of the United States Navy, and two sisters, Mrs. Bethel Jones and Mrs. Ruth Doak, both of McMinnville.  High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ANDERSON, Jo Alma Lusk, (????-1970)

Mrs. Anderson
           Mrs. Jo Alma Anderson, widowed resident of 107 Walnut Street, McMinnville, succumbed to a lingering illness at Woodbury Hospital at 6:45 a.m. Wednesday. A native of Coffee County, she was the widow of Luther Anderson who proceeded her in death in 1945. Mrs. Anderson was a member of the Church of Christ and a daughter of the late Jay and Ann Elizabeth Burroughs Lusk, both of Coffee County. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Grady Jones and Mrs. Ruth Doak, both of McMinnville, four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at High's Chapel at 2 p.m. Friday by brother Rufe Higgins, burial following in Riverside cemetery. High's Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

ANDERSON, Joe E. (1872-1941)

Joe E. Anderson died Tuesday morning at his home in Dunlap. Mr. Anderson had been in failing health for some months. He was a son of William E. and Isabell McRee Anderson and was born July 10, 1872 at the old Josiah M. Anderson home, southeast of Dunlap. He is survived by his wife, who was Miss Emma Prigmore, of Marion county, and the following children: William E. Anderson, Chattanooga; Mrs. Almeda Burks, McMinnville; Joe Anderson, Jr., Dunlap; R.L. Anderson, McMinnville; Mrs. T.O. Hinton, Anniston, Ala.; Mrs. S. R. Hinton, Dunlap; Haskel Anderson, Chattanooga; Mrs. Gordon Smith, El Paso, Tex.; several grandchildren, great-grand-children, and one sister, Miss Almeda Anderson of Chattanooga. Funeral will be conducted by the Rev. F.H. Carey at the Dunlap M.E. church at 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial service in charge of the Masonic lodge at Chapel Hill cemetery.  Pallbearers: Gordon Smith, S.R. Hinton, R.A. Anderson, T.O. Hinton, Otto Hege, W.H. Smith, J.B. Anderson and Briggs Smith. Arrangements by Putnam-Standefer.

ANDERSON, John Henry Tillman, (1870-1947)

J. H. T. Anderson Buried Tuesday
           Funeral Services for James Henry Tillman Anderson, 76, prominent citizen of Vervilla were held at 2:30 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the Vervilla Methodist Church with the Reverend George W. Baxter of Adams, former pastor of the Church officiating. Burial was in the Church Cemetery. Mr Anderson was stricken Saturday while engaged in work at his home and lived until 5 o'clock Sunday morning. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage. The son of Isaac Anderson and Nancy Henegar Anderson. The deceased was born April 14, 1870 in Warren County. He had been prominent in the religious and political life of the county for a number of years and was at one time a candidate for trustee and tax collector. Survivors include his widow, Mrs Nancy Comer Anderson, four sons, Tillman Anderson of Prague, Isaac Anderson, John Anderson and Comer Anderson, all of Cincinnati Ohio; four daughters, Mrs. A.A. Stanley, Smackover, Arkansas, Mrs. Lee Davidson, Mrs. Harry Jones, and Miss Minnie Anderson, all of Cinncinnati. Arrangements by High Funeral Home.

ANDERSON, Luther, (1877-1945)

Death Claims Luther Anderson
          Luther Nathaniel Anderson, 67, died of a heart attack about 10:30 o'clock Tuesday morning.   He had started from his home on 106 Cedar Street to a stock sale and became suddenly ill. He went to the home of a Mr. Capshaw nearby and asked if he might lay down for a few minutes that he was ill. He died before reaching the bed. Death was attributed to a heart attack.  Mr. Anderson was born in Coffee county August 23,1877 and was the son of Nathaniel Anderson and Sallie Horton Anderson. He resided in McMinnville for a number of years and was a foreman at the plant of the McMinnville Manufacturing company here.  Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Joe Lusk Anderson; a son, Homer Anderson; and two daughters, Mrs. Jack Doak and Mrs. Bethel Jones, all of McMinnville.  The funeral was held from the chapel of the John W. High Funeral Home at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon. The services were conducted by the Rev. J. B. Spurlock, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial was in the Hillsboro Cem. Coffee county.   Arrangements by the High Funeral Co.

ANDERSON, William Henry (1874-1952)

W.H. Anderson Dies After Brief Illness
           Willliam Henry Anderson, 77, 13th district farmer, died at his home Tuesday evening at 11:25 o'clock, following an illness of five weeks. Funeral services were conducted Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Gath Baptist Church. Rev. P.E. Maples, Pastor of Providence Baptist Church, and John W. High officiated and burial was in the Gath cemetery. Mr. Anderson, native of Cannon county, was born December 6, 1874. He was a son of John Anderson and Rebecca Spurlock Anderson and he was married to Miss Frances Elizabeth Bryson February 18, 1905. She survives. Mr. Anderson had been a resident of Warren county for several years. Survivors, in addition to his wife include four sons, Marshall Anderson, McMinnville, Marvin and Zollie Anderson, Detroit, Mich., and Clarence Anderson, Wickliffe, Ohio; four daughters, Mrs. Alberta Griffin, McMinnville, Mrs. Leona Paulson, Richfield, Utah, Mrs. Alice Houser, Chicago, Ill., and Mrs. Minnie Eberesberger, Detroit, Mich. Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.

ARGO, Fred  (circa 1888-1953)

Grundy Logger Dies Suddenly
           Fred Argo, 64-year-old Grundy county lumberman, died unexpectedly while at work in the Northcutt's Cove section Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock. His death was attributed to a heart attack. Funeral services were conducted yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Hebron Church of Christ. J.R. Bailey officiated and burial was in Hebron cemetery. Mr. Argo, a Grundy county native, was born July 14, 1888. He was a son of Joseph Argo and Linnie Hobbs Argo and he was unmarried. At he time of his death, Mr. Argo was engaged in timber cutting for the Burroughs-Ross-Colville Company. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include four brothers, Frank, Howard and Horace Argo, McMinnville, and Tom Argo, Morrison; one sister, Mrs. Amos Fults, McMinnville. Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.

ARGO, Murray Bedford  (1884-1949)

Murray Argo Dies Saturday
           Murray Bedford Argo, 59 year old farmer, died suddenly at his home near Irving College last Thursday at 10 a.m. Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at the Hebron Church of Christ by Bro. E.D. Martin and burial was in the Hebron cemetery. The 7th district farmer was born in Grundy county April 10, 1884, the son of Joseph and Lela Hobbs Argo, and came to Warren county several years ago. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife, the former Maude Hobbs, 3 sons, Jesse, Herman and Luke Argo, 4 daughters, Mrs. J.P. Stubblefield, Miss Irene Argo, Mrs. Arnie Lusk and Mrs. Charles Kelley, all of Warren county; 1 sister, Mrs. Amos Fults, Grundy county, and 5 brothers, Frank, Fred and Harry Argo of Grundy county, and Horace and Tom Argo of Warren County. High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ARNOLD, Alda Hobbs (circa 1912-1998)

Manchester resident and Warren County native Alda Hobbs Arnold, 86, died May 22 at Coffee Medical Center. The former owner/operator of Greyhound Bus Station in Manchester and a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Manchester, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Maude Nunley Hobbs, and was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Arnold, in 1991. She is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Smith of Tullahoma and Linda McAfee of Decherd; one son, Ray Arnold of Manchester, and one sister, Wilma Hobbs Sullivan of McMinnville; 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Manchester Funeral Home with David Costello officiating.  Burial will follow at Hebron Church of Christ Cemetery in Irving College.  Manchester Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

ASHFORD, Irving R. (1877 - 1953)

Irving Ashford's Rites Set Today
          Funeral services for Irving R. Ashford, retired Mississippi planter and resident of McMinnville for several years, will be conducted this Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the chapel of High Funeral Home. Rev. C.B. Smith, pastor of First Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Riverside cemetery.  Mr. Ashford, 75, died unexpectedly at Medical Clinic Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock, after suffering a stroke at his home on North Spring street a short while earlier.  A native of Giles county, Mr. Ashford was born August 7, 1877. He was a son of P.C. Ashford and Lucinda Tinnon Ashford and he was married to Miss Agnes Kelly. She survives. In the early forties Mr. and Mrs. Ashford came to McMinnville to make their home with his sister, Mrs. Lula McGregor, and during World War II he was employed in defense industries at Tullahoma and Oak Ridge. Previous to his residence here, Mr. Ashford had lived at Shaw, Miss., where he operated a large plantation. His wife and sister are the only survivors. High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

AUSTIN, Mattie M. (1921-1999)

Mattie M. Austin, 78
           McMinnville resident and Van Buren County native Mattie M. Austin, 78, died April 25 at Glen Oakes Nursing Home in Shelbyville. A hair stylist and a member of the Church of Christ, she was the daughter of the late Lee and Atlia Sparkman Miller; and was preceded in death by one daughter, Margie Ann Austin in 1976; and her husband, Edward J. Austin in 1962. She is survived by one son, James E. Austin of McMinnville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda J. and Richard Bost of McMinnville and Linda and Maurice Young of Athens; sister-in-law, Geneva Ferrell of McMinnville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Tuesday at Mt. View Cemetery with Richard Bost officiating.  Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

AUSTIN, Thulia Shockley Grissom (1861 - 1953)

Rites Tuesday For Mrs. Bob Austin, Aged Resident
           Mrs. Thulia Shockley Austin, pioneer resident of Van Buren county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. Clay Brier, on Ben Lomand Drive in Westwood, Sunday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock. Mrs. Austin was 91 years, 7 months old. She had been ill for about two months. A native of Van Buren County, Mrs. Austin was born November 29, 1861. She was a daughter of Phillip Shockley and Bettie Rhodes Shockley and she was married to Elijah Grissom, who died in 1911. In 1917 she was married to Robert Austin who preceded her in death several years ago. Mrs. Austin was a member of the Baptist Church and remained active despite her years until only a short while ago. An occasion of note occurred on her 90th birthday when she was a customer at a McMinnville beauty parlor. She was widely known in Warren, Van Buren and White counties where she held acquaintances with some of the counties old-time residents. Survivors, in addition to Mrs. Brier, include another daughter. Mrs. Laura Ward, Campaign; three sons, Bob T. Grissom, Spencer, and Oda Grissom, Doyle; one step-son, A.W. Grissom, Quebeck, and a step-daughter, Mrs. Walter Hill, Tulsa, Oklahoma. Funeral rites were held Tuesday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Brier residence. Rev. Reed R. Compton, pastor of Spencer Baptist Church, and Rev. Reed R. Compton, pastor of Spencer Baptist Church, and Rev. Calvin C. Wigley, pastor of McMinnville Church of God, officiated and burial was in Laurel Creek cemetery in Van Buren county.  Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.

AUSTIN, William Edward (1862-1952)

Retired Farmer Dies In White
           William Edward Austin, retired Hickory Valley farmer, died at his home Friday evening at 10:05 o’clock, following three days’ illness. He was 89. Services were held at Bethlehem church in White county. Billy Norris, minister of the Sparta Church of Christ, officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. A native and lifelong resident of White county, Mr. Austin was born June 10, 1862. He was a son of Edward Austin and Mary Lou Frazier Austin. He was married to Miss Carrie Haston, who survives. Mr. Austin was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors, besides his wife, are four sons, William Austin, Doyle, Charles Austin, Hickory Valley, Van Austin, Detroit, Mich., and Carrol Austin, Sparta. Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.
