DAVIDSON, Anna Elizabeth  (1890-1904)

Anna Elizabeth Davidson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.D.B. Davidson was born Nov. 17, 1890 and died June 7th 1904 at 9:18 p.m.  She had been suffering with measles which lead into pneumonia for some weeks. The death was the sweetest that those present had ever witnessed.  She was seated in a rocker and was perfectly conscious to within as few moments of the last when it seemed the angels came and beckoned to her soul to come and go with them, and she caught up the strain "la la!" repeating this several times with a gradual increase in the tone of voice and at the same time rocking to and fro until without a struggle, with no indication of pain whatever she was wafted away to join the blessed above.  It is of course difficult to part with such a sweet, bright, beautiful child almost ready to bloom into woman-hood but we should joyfully say with our Blessed Redeemer "God's Will be done; not mine."  Funeral services were conducted at the residence Thursday morning after which the body was taken to Salem, Lewis Co. for interment.

Campaign community- Death Removed one of our oldest citizens Friday night when Mrs. Rebecca Davis departed this life after an illness of about four months.  "Aunt Beck" and her husband, " Uncle Mon" have resided in Campaign some 25 years, and had enjoyed wedded bliss close to 70 years, having married in their early teens. Although they have no records, their ages are said to be 84 for her and 90 or 91 for him. Mrs. Davis was a daughter of Ike and Nancy McBride Hillis born in the Goodbars community of this community of this county   and  spent all of her life in Warren and Van Buren.  She was a member of the Methodist church, a good woman, who never took to the fads and frills of our modern age.  She was devoted to her home and family, kind to her neighbors and loved by their children.  This world would be a better place if more people, like Aunt Beck, would love the simple things of life, and have some of her kindness, good heartedness, and patience. She was the mother of ten children, 9 sons and one daughter, all deceased except Titus of Quebeck, Dennie and Floyd and Mrs. Maude Rutledge of this place. She played a great part in rearing of two grandsons, Zollie and Woodrow Davis, also of this place. She was known to her family as Mammy and to her aged husband as "Becky" who confided to us that in all the trials and tribulations of his long life, the loss of his companion, was the hardest to bear. She is survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all to whom our community offers sympathy. Funeral services and burial at Friendship Sunday P.M. conducted by Bro. Brannon and Mr. High.

BRINK, Bernard W. (Ben)

North Kentucky Collision Kills Native Of Warren
A Warren county native, Clyde Brown Davis, 37 was killed early Sunday morning in a two-car collision in northern Kentucky which claimed the lives of three other persons and injured two children.  The fatal collision telescoped both automobiles, pinning all occupants in the wreckage. It occurred about 5:05 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Highway 42, ten miles west of Covington, Ky.  Mr. Dennis, owner of one of the cars, was returning to Detroit, Mich., where he had made his home for the past fourteen years, when the collision occurred. Driver of this car at the time of the accident was Roy Mack Berryman, who with his wife, Mrs. Frances Berryman, was also killed in the wreck. The two Berryman children, Roy, Jr., 6, and Pamela, 3, were reported in serious condition early in the week at a Covington hospital.  Driver of the other automobile involved in the crash   was a man listed as Bernard W. (Ben) Brink, of Covington. He was also killed. The Cincinnati Enquirer, daily newspaper, said that state troopers and passing motorists  worked 20 minutes in extricating the bodies from the twisted wreckage.  A crowbar was used to free the children from the rear seat of the Dennis car, the daily paper said. Kentucky state police reported that the accident was the first they had experienced  in which gasoline tanks were ripped from the machines by pressure of impact. There was no fire.  Mr. Dennis and Mr. Berryman  had come to Nashville last weekend to pick up Mr. Barryman's wife and children who had been visiting relatives in Dickson. The former Warren resident and Mr. and Mrs. Berryman died en-route to a Covington hospital.  Mr. Dennis was born near Lucky July 13, 1914. He was a son of A.R. Dennis and Adeline Parker and he was married January 28, 1933 to Miss Mary Irene Craddock. She survives.  He left Warren county in 1938 and since that time had resided in Detroit where he was engaged in the roofing business. He was a member of the Baptist Church.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Clydia Ruth Dennis and Mary Joyce Dennis, both of Detroit; three brothers, Bill, Lonnie and Homer Dennis, and two sisters, Mrs. Bob Pirtle and Mrs. J. B. Denton, all of Detroit. Funeral services for Mr. Dennis were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Providence Baptist Church. Earnest Rich officiated and burial was in Providence cemetery.  Rites for Mr. and Mrs. Berryman were held at Waverly and Mr. Brink's funeral was held at Lookout Heights, Ky., Wednesday.

Manufacturer Had Been Ill For Year, 4 Times Legislator

Lester Doak, retired lumber manufacturer and a leading figure in the political life of McMinnville and Warren county for more than a quarter of a century, died at his home on West Colville street Wednesday afternoon at 2:50 o'clock. Mr. Doak, 67, had been in failing health for several months.
Funeral services will be conducted today (Friday) at 2 o'clock at the parlors of High Funeral Home. Allen Phy, minister of Central Church of Christ, will officiate, assisted by John W. High, and burial will be in Mt. View cemetery.
At one time owner and operator of the largest independent hame factory in the world, which was located here, Mr. Doak had been a principal figure in the county and Middle Tennessee's political picture since 1926. He represented Warren county in the House of Representatives in the sessions of 1941 and 1949 and was State Senator from the 11th Senatorial District, composed of the counties of Franklin, Marion, Grundy, and Warren, in the Legislstive sessions of 1931 and 1939. Mr. Doak was also prominently mentioned as a candidate for Congress to succeed the late Sam D. McReynolds in 1940, however, he did not make the race.
A native of Cannon county, Mr. Doak was born near Woodbury, June 2, 1884. He was a son of Robert D. Doak and Mary Jane Preston Doak and in 1906 he moved to McMinnville where he had lived ever since.

Since the disposal of the hame business, he had been engaged in the manufacture of cedar lumber products and had operated several large sawmills in this area.  The first venture of Mr. Doak, who was known to thousands of Tennessee political figures as "Senator Lester," in the political field was in 1926 when he managed the Warren county campaign of Lewis S. Pope, an unsuccessful candidate for Governor at that time. Following that activity he continued active in local and state politics for more that a quarter of a century. In addition to his interest in the local political picture through he years, Mr. Doak was always active in state-wide political races and during his service in the General Assembly he was always identified with the administration forces at the particular times.  Mr. Doak was a member of the Warren County Democratic Executive Committee for 25 years.
He was a member of the Church of Christ. Mr. Doak was first married to Miss Ruby Cleo Tipton, of Altamont, Grundy county, Tennessee, in 1908.
