EALEY, Dora Ethel   (1877-1953)

Dora Ealey's Rites Held Here Saturday
      Funeral services for Dora Ethel Ealey, colored , resident of 104 N. Cedar street, were con- ducted Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock at East End Drive Church of Christ. Calvin Dowell, minister of the church, officiated and burial was in Riverside cemetery.  She died at her home Thursday at 2:20 p.m. following and illness of five days. A native of Smith county, the deceased was born October 20, 1877. She was a daughter of Sidney Lancaster and Jane New Lancaster and she was married to James Ealey, who preceded her in death four years ago. She was a member of the Chruch of Christ.  Survivors include one daughter, Levora Bonner, Detroit, Mich. Highs were in charge of arrangements.

EDGE, Della H.  (1876 - 1941)

Miss Della H. Edge
             Funeral services for Miss Della H. Edge, 64, were conducted from the Earleyville Church of Christ, near Daylight, at 1 o'clock Monday afternoon by Elder T.Q. Martin of McMinnville Church of Christ. Burial was in Blue's Hill cemetery, in the thirteenth district.  The deceased was a daughter of the late I.B. and Mary Martin Edge and was born and reared in Warren county.  Survivors include: three brothers, Firm Edge, McMinnville and Zeb and Charles Edge of Smartt; two sisters, Mrs. Eliza Parton and Mrs. Mattie Smith, both of Daylight. Arrangements by Jones & Warren, Inc.

EDGE, J. F.   (1874 - 1953)


Mr. Edge's Rites Are Held Tuesday
          J.F. (Firm) Edge, 79-year-old retired farmer and teamster, died at the home of his grandson, A.D. (Buck) Edge, 228 Hill street, Monday morning at 9:30 o'clock.  Mr. Edge suffered a stroke of paralysis some five years ago and had been in failing health since that time. He had been confined for the past two weeks. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock at the chapel of High Funeral Home. Stanley J. McInery, minister of Westwood Church of Christ, and Rev. C.B. Smith, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiated and burial was in Mt. View cemetery.  A Native of Warren county, Mr. Edge was born at Daylight March 13, 1874. He was a son of Robert Edge and Mary Martin Edge and he was married to Miss Lillie Davis August 14, 1898.  She died December 4, 1951. Mr. Edge was employed in McMinnville for more than three decades by local mule barns s a teamster.  He had been retired for several years. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Roberta Shadwick, McMinnville, and a son Davis Edge, Detroit, Mich. Also four grandchildren, A. D. Edge, McMinnville, with whom he made his home, Mrs. James Hardin, Mrs. Ed Franks and Douglas Edge All of Detroit. Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.

EDGE, Zeb  (1884 - 1953)

Zeb Edge’s Rites Held At Salem
     Funeral services for Zeb Edge, retired farmer, were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Salem Church of Christ. Allen Phy, minister of Central Church of Chris, officiated and burial was in Salem cemetery.  Mr. Edge, 68, died at his home, 110 Seitz street, Friday evening at 9 o’clock, following a lingering illness. He was a native of Warren county, born April 3, 1884. His parents were Robert Edge and Mary Martin Edge and he was a member of the Presbyterian Church.  Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Sally Green Edge, McMinnville, and two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Smith and Mrs. Eliza Parton, both of Chattanooga. Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.

ELAM, Martha Ann  (1868-1952)

Rites For Miss Elam, 83, Held In Cannon County
           Miss Martha Ann Elam, 83, died at her home in the 10the district of Coffee county December 27 at 4 a.m. following an illness of three months. Funeral services were held December 28 at 1 p.m. at Pocahontas in Cannon county.  Burial  took place in the Shady Grove cemetery in Coffee county.  Miss Elam was a native of Warren county, born October 23, 1868. Her parents were John Elam and Mary Williams Elam and she was a member of the Church of Christ.  Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Banks and Miss Sallie Elam, both of Coffee county.

ELKINS, M. R. (Dick)   (circa 1888 - 1953)

M.R. Elkins, 65, Cannon Church Leader, Passes
           M. R. Elkins, 65, Cannon county farmer and church leader, died at Good Samaritan Hospital, Woodbury, Saturday evening at 11:45 o’clock, following and illness of three months. Death was due to a heart ailment. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Elkins Church of Christ with J.D. Boyd, Mansfield, La., officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Elkins was born and reared in Cannon county, the sons of John N. Elkins and Amanda Lorance Elkins. He was married August 14, 1910 ot Miss Emma Mae Todd. She survives. Dovoting most of his life to farming in the eighth district of Cannon county, Mr. Elkins with his father and a brother, the late M.F.Elkins oraganized the Elkins Church of Christ congregation which he attended for more than half a century. He had been song leader of the congregation since he was 15 year of age and had been a member of the Church of Christ since 1902.  Survivors in addition to his wife, are five sons, Garland Elkins, Linden and Clark Elkins, Wayne, Mich., both Church of Christ ministers, Haskell Elkins, Cannon county and Fred Elkins, Knoxville, and Pvt. Bobby Elkins, U.S. Army, Germany; two brothers, John Elkins and Rufus Elkins, Cannon county.  High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ELKINS, Mamie Cooper  (1890 - 1953)

Mrs. Elvin Elkins Dies Of Stroke; Rites Held Tuesday
                 Mrs. Mamie Cooper Elkins, 62, widow of Elvin M. Elkins, McMinnville businessman, died unexpectedly at her home on West Main street Sunday evening at 9:46 o’clock, shortly after she had suffered a stroke of paralysis. She had been in ill health for several months, suffering from severe high blood pressure. Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o’clock at the chapel of High Funeral Home.  Rev. Geddes Orman, minister of Main Street Presbyterian Church, officiated and burial was in Riverside cemetery. Mrs. Elkins, native and life-long resident of McMinnville was born October 21, 1890. She was a daughter of the late Joe M. Lively, McMinnville furniture store operator and funeral director, and Ellen Gribble Lively, and she was married to Mr. Elkins June 11, 1912. Her husband was associated in the firm of Elkins, Henegar & Faulkner until his death July 24, 1936.  Mrs. Elkins was a member of the Presbyterian Church and remained active in various church organizations until ill health forced her retirement from such duties. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. U. L. (Bill) Jacobs, Decatur, Ga.; two sisters, Mrs. H. S. Van Deren and Miss Catherine Lively, Nashville. High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

ELLIOT, Cecil Braxton  (1900-1952)

Quebeck Citizen Dies Saturday
Cecil Braxton Elliot, Lumber mill employee, died unexpectedly Sunday morning at 7 o'clock at his home in Quebeck, White county.  His death was attributed to a heart attack.  Mr. Elliot was 52.  Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the residence with Oscar Nash and John W. High officiating.  Burial was in Mt. Pisgah cemetery. A native of White county, Mr. Elliot was born August 4, 1900. His parents were
Simrell Elliot and Ada Lawson Elliot and he was married November 13, 1922 to Miss Daisy Kirby. She survives. He had been employed by Evertt Rowland Lumber company at Quebeck for some time and was a member of the Baptist Church.  Besides his wife,  Mr. Elliot is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Ed Dodson, Sparta, Mrs. Myrtle Swindell, Miss Marie Elliot, Miss Willie Ruth Elliot, and Miss Ollie V. Elliot, all of Quebeck. Also a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Myers, Quebeck.  Arrangements were by High Funeral Home.

ELROD, Homer B.  (1897-1951)

H. B. Elrod, 53, Farmer Dies
                     Homer B. Elrod, sixteenth district farmer and Veteran of world War I, died at a local hospital Thursday morning at one o'clock after a short illness. He was 53. Funeral arrangements had not been completed at press time, however they are expected to be held at the Green Hill Church of Christ and burial will be in the Oak Grove cemetery.  A native of Texas, Mr. Elrod was born August 4, 1897. He was a son of Samuel D. Elrod and Sallie Frances Elkins Elrod and he was married to Miss Sadie Barrett. She survives.  Mr. Elrod was a member of the Church of Christ.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, H.B. Elrod, Jr.; and two daughters, Mrs. Burgess Parkhurst, of Dibrell, and Mrs. N.E. Rhodes, Mississippi.  Also three brothers, Charles Elrod, McMinnville, Howard Elrod, Nashville, and Albert Elrod, Warren county, and three sisters, Mrs. Minnie Burkett and Mrs. A. O. Woods, both of McMinnville, and Mrs. George Watson, Cookeville.  High Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

EMERY, Charles Francis   (1870-1952)

Charles Emery Dies Of Illness
Charles Francis Emery, 82, died at his home on Route 2 Sunday morning at  8 o'clock, following an illness of seven months.  Funeral services were held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock at Pleasant Hill church with Alvin Ferrell officiating.  Burial was in Pleasant Hill cemetery.  Mr. Emery was a native of Warren county, born March 16, 1869. He was a  son of Frank E. Emery and Elizabeth Emery.  Survivors include his wife,  Mrs. Martha McGregor Emery; four sons, Lebern E. Emery, North Carolina,  Henry E. and Paul Emery, McMinnville, and Sam Emery, North Carolina; four daughters, Mrs. Ethel Davenport, Texas, Mrs. Bertha McCagg,  Nashville, Mrs. Flossie Davis, North Carolina, and Miss Ozilee Emery,  McMinnville; two brothers, Bob Emery, McMinnville, and Henry Emery,  Pikeville; two sisters Mrs. Mattie Vinson, Daylight, and Mrs. Zip Todd,  Woodbury.  Also 34 grandchildren and 53 great-grandchildren.  Love-Cantrell Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

EMMONS, Virgie Lou Stone  (circa 1912-1987)

               Mrs. Virgie Lou Stone Emmons of Fayetteville died July 31 in the Lincoln Regional Hospital after a long illness. She was 75. The funeral was Monday, August 3, at May's Chapel A.M.E. Church with the Rev. Willie Lee Leslie officiating. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery with Sledge Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A native of Lincoln County, she was the daughter of the late Henry Lewis and Annie Buchanan Stone, and a member of May's Chapel A.M. E. Church. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Annie Rose Bonner of Albion, Mich., and Mrs. Kathleen Buchanan, of Howell; a son, Thomas Anderson, Albion, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Ollie Mae Clark, Fayetteville, and Mrs. Annie Ruth Hester, Chattanooga; two brothers, Willie Stone and James Stone, both of Albion, Mich; 10 grandchildren and 16 greatgrandchildren.

EMSEY, Maurice (1877-1959)

     Last Rited For Maurice Emsey To Be Tuesday
Maurice Lewis Emsey, 82, died Monday morning at his home at 125 Lance St., following a two year illness.  Funeral services for Mr. Emsey will be held Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock in the Love-Cantrell Chapel. Burial will follow in the Summittville Cemetery.  Mr. Emsey was born in Manchester Sept 11, 1877. He was married to the former Elatia Bonner, who survives him.  Surviving Mr. Emsey besides his wife are two step sons, Howard Crowley, Manchester and Lester Crowley, Baltimore, Md.; one brother, Like Emsey, Murfreesboro; and six grandchildren.  Love-Cantrell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

ERVIN, Mrs. Cecil Pack  (circa 1913 - 1953)

Nashville Woman Instantly Killed When Car Overturns Near Warren-DeKalb Line - Body Pinned Beneath Wreckage
       A Nashville woman met instant death and two McMinnville women were injured yesterday morning when their automobile overturned at the Warren-DeKalb county line on Highway 56.  The accident occurred at 10:15 a.m.  Instantly killed in the wreck was Mrs. Cecil Pack Ervin, about 40, a resident of Nashville and native of DeKalb county. The injured were Mrs. Cecil Miller, 102 Gay street, and Mrs. Grace M. Perry, Bluff street, McMinnville.  According to Mrs. Perry, who was driving the 1942-model Ford, a tire on the car blew out causing her to lose control of the vehicle.  The women were enroute to McMinnville after visiting Thursday morning at the home of a relative, Mrs. Mary Lou Duggin, at Dowelltown.  An ambulance of Love, Cantrell and  McGrath Funeral Home brought Mrs. Miller and Mrs. Perry to Medical Clinic where they received emergency treatment.  Walker Funeral Home of Smithville picked up the body of the fatally injured woman. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Smithville funeral home.

ETTER, Ada Gertrude Hill  (1851-1950)

      99-Year-Old County Native Laid To Rest
Mrs. Ada Gertrude Etter, probably Warren county's oldest  resident, died at her home near Irving College Thursday evening at 10 o'clock.  She was 99, years of age.  Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at the Armstrong Church of Christ. John W. High officiated and burial was in the Armstrong cemetery.  A native of Warren county, Mrs. Etter was born October 10, 1851. She was a daughter of Israel Hill and Catherine Daniel Hill and was married December 25, 1870 to James Etter, who died March  4, 1924. Mrs. Etter had lived her entire lifetime in the Irving College community and for the past 79 years in the home where she died. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ.  Survivors are one son, Clyde Etter, retired county merchant; one daughter, Miss Maude Etter, of this county, and one sister, Mrs. Lizzie white, Chattanooga. Arrangements by High Funeral Home.

EVANS, Arthur Parker (1867 - 1947)

     Aged Resident Dies At Home
Arthur Parker (Art) Evans, widely know grower of fine watermelons and long-time resident of the county, died at his home in the 5th district at Shellsford Wednesday after a lingering illness. He was 80. Funeral services were incomplete as the Standard went to press, pending arrival of sons and daughters from other states. However, the deceased will be laid to rest at Shellsford, and Rev. E.L. Smothers, pastor of the Magness Memorial Baptist Church, will be the officiating minister. Mr. Evans was born in Warren County, October 3, 1867 and was a son of James Evans and Louraine Smith Evans. He had been engaged in farming in this county for a number of years. Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Emma Hillis Evans; six sons, Murphy Evans of Beaumont, Texas, Joe, Avery and Bill Evans of McMinnville, and Clyde and Hillis Evans of Toledo, Ohio; two daughters Mrs. C.E. Multog of Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Artie McGregor of Detroit, Mich., also one sister, Mrs. W.M. Haynes of Lynn, Okla. Arrangements in charge of High Funeral Home.

EVANS, Provine (????-1952)

              Provine Evans, retired colored railroad employee, died at the home of a niece, Avo Carter, 111 Murphy St. Tuesday, February 12, at 10 o'clock. He had been ill several months. Funeral services were held the following day at 3:30 p.m. at the Carter residence. Rev. Jake Anderson, Methodist minister, officiated and burial was in Riverside cemetery. There are no immediate survivors.

EVANS, William Vogol  (1911 - 1953)

Shotgun Blast Proves Fatal To Bill Evans
           A well known resident of Smyrna community, William V. (Bill) Evans, died instantly late Sunday afternoon of a self-inflicted shotgun blast. The suicide occurred at the Evans home on Beersheba road about 6:30 p.m.  According to relatives. Mr. Evans was alone at home at the time of the shooting. The fatal blast was fired from a 16 gauge shotgun and entered the regions of the heart. Mr. Evans was found by a son, Billy Evans, who returned home shortly after the fatal shooting.  The body was in a bedroom of the home. His wife, Mrs. Yvonne Evans, had left home only a short while before that and was enroute to church at Smyrna when informed of the suicide.  William Vogol Evans, native of Warren county, was born January 15, 1911. He was a son of A.P. Evans and Emma Hillis Evans and he was married June 9, 1933 to Miss Yvonne Ware, who survives.  During World War II, Mr. Evans served with the Army and was stationed in California. He had been engaged in farming and trucking in recent years.  Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by two sons, Billy Wayne and Bobby Evans, McMinnville; four brothers, Clyde Evans, Toledo, Ohio, Murphy Evans, Beaumont, Texas, Joe Evans, McMinnville, and Hillis Evans, Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Eugene Leighton and Mrs. Clarence Multog, Baltimore, Md.  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Shellsford Baptist Church.  E.K. Dewitt, Johovah’s Witness minister, officiated and burial was in Shellsford cemetery. High Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

EVERSOLE, Jesse Casper (circa 1926-1999)

          Rock Island resident and Laurel County, Ky., native Jesse Casper Eversole, 73, died Jan. 10 at  Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro.  A machinist and a U.S. Navy veteran, he was affiliated with the Pentecostal faith. He was preceded in death by his stepmother, Minnie Eversole; and three brothers, Ray, Elmer and James Earl Eversole. He is survived by his wife, Janice Gregory Eversole; four sons, Wade Eversole of McMinnville, Joel Timothy Eversole of Charlestown, Marty Eversole of Franklin and  Stanley Dale Eversole of Lancaster, Ky.; three sisters, Clara Whilhite of Leesburg, Ohio, Cindy Delph and Doris Reed, both of London, Ky.; two brothers, Carlos Eversole of East Bernstadt, N.Y., and Donald Eversole of Hillsboro, Ohio; 13 grand- children and three great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Bowling Funeral Home in London Ky., with Stephen Lewis officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim's Reset Cemetery in eats Bernstadt, Ky.
