The following Poem was written in Memory of Mrs. Belle Harris, widow of Dr. John S. Harris, who passed away recently following a long illness. The identity of the writer is being withheld, at her request, since, in her words, “it is not just my thoughts. Mrs. Harris was deeply loved and revered by all of us”THE LADY IN THE CHAIR
In Honor of Mrs. John S. Harris
Her body was imprisoned there
For many years – within the chair,
Held by fetters of helplessness and pain;
But her loving thoughts flew free
Then, as now, for eternity,
And, the memory of her will long remain.
Her love in unmeasured mead,
Her words of wisdom in our need,
The twinkle in her eye, her smile so gay;
We will remember all of this
And always miss
The lady in the chair now gone away.Southern Standard, McMinnville, TN, Thursday, May 21, 1953, p. 24.[Contributor: Maxine Reggio, Bethany, OK, 2000.]
