HOPKINS, Samuel A.  (???? - 1884)

Death of Samuel A. Hopkins.
Samuel A. Hopkins, a well known and highly respected citizen of this county, died last Sunday evening at the residence of Mr. Cummings, near Fennel & Scales' store.  Mr. Hopkins had gone to Fennel & Scales' store last Saturday evening, and while there, became suddenly very ill with pains in the stomach.  Soon after, his bowels and left leg and thigh became involved, with which he suffered great pain.  Drs. Sparks and Black were sent for and did all they could to relieve the suffering man, but so severe was the attack they could give no relief.  After suffering 24 hours, he died, probably of congestion of the stomach and paralysis.  Mr. Hopkins was one of our best and most highly esteemed citizens, upright and honest in all his dealings with his fellowmen. His remains were brought to this place on Monday evening at 4 o'clock and interred in the new cemetery.  The funeral service was conducted by Elder O. M. Thurman.  Mr. Hopkins leaves a family and many friends to lament his sudden and unexpected demise.
