JOHNSON, Julius W. (1941- 1980)
Johnson 11th Traffic Fatality
The traffic toll for Warren County continued to climb as a 39-year-old Mauzy Street resident died Wednesday morning of injuries suffered late Tuesday afternoon in a crash near Warren County General Hospital at the city limits on Highway 70 East.
Dead is Julius W. Johnson of 137 Mauzy Street who died at 9:40 a.m. Wednesday in the hospital of what was believed to have been internal injuries suffered in the 5:45 p.m. Tuesday mishap.
According to Patrolman Kenny Taylor, Johnson was driving a 1972 Ford van in an eastwardly direction when a 1972 Chevrolet operated by auto salesman Virgil Denton, pulled from the J.E. Johnson dealership into the highway.
Taylor speculated that the afternoon sun may have been a factor in the accident. Both cars were a total wreck, Taylor said. He said Johnson showed no external signs of injury and at the scene was attempting to aid the 74-year-old Denton.
The latter was evacuated to Baptist Hospital in Nashville where he was reported in satisfactory condition in the intensive surgical care unit with two fractures of his left arm, facial, neck and rib injuries
Ptl. Taylor said he had been at police headquarters catching up with some of his paperwork when dispatcher Aubrey Greer verbally notified him of the wreck and as a result there was no radio traffic. Too, he said, the victims were only a short distance from Warren County General and River Park Hospitals.
Johnson became the 11th 1980 traffic fatality for Warren County but the first within the city limits.
Mr. Johnson, a self-employed carpenter, plumber and electrician, was a native of DeKalb County and a member of the Victory Free Will Baptist Church.
He was married to the former Janice Thrower and was a son of the late Julis W. Johnson, Sr. and Mrs. Minnie Lea Roller Johnson of McMinnville. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by a son and daughter, James Henry Johnson and Tammy Marie Johnson; six sisters and four brothers, Joyce Vaughn, Ruby Zeller, both of McMinnville; Virgie Mantooth of Detroit, Agness Greenwood of Baltimore, Reva Wyatt of Kentucky, Mildred Hacket of Pomona, Calif.; Tony Tittsworth of McMinnville, Houston Cantrell of Dalton, Ga,; Elmer and H.D. JONES, Laura (circa 1858 - 1885)
Departed this life, Friday, March 6th, 1885, at 4 1/2 o'clock a.m., Laura, wife of Dr. E.H. Jones. Mrs. Jones was a most exemplary woman. As a devoted and affectionate wife, kind to her servants and obliging to her neighbors, there were few who commanded such general esteem and love. As an evidence of the esteem in which she was held by the community in which she lived, none better could be furnished than that unbounded sympathy, attended with so many tender offices of kindness such as were exhibited by the entire community during her illness. I think I can safely say I never saw greater willingness to sacrifice personal ease and comfort than was manifested by her husband and other eminent physicians and lady friends who attended around her sick bed. She was a most devoted wife to husband to whom she gave her earliest and strongest affections. She now leaves him heart broken to mourn an irreparable loss. May he who so highly appreciated her virtues remember how slight the barrier which separates time from eternity, and learn to renounce the love of a fleeting and delusive world for the sake of those higher affections and connections which await the Christian victor after he has successfully fought the good fight and overcome the world.

JONES, Will (???? - 1952)
MEMORIAM
In memory of my husband, Will Jones, who went away one year ago, December 11.
In memory we can hear your voice
As laughing all the while
We feel your handclasp once again
And see your cheery smile.
No one could greet more folks than you
And call each one by name
And have them all think well of him
yet treat each one the same.
Though you enjoyed success with-in
Your realm unto the end,
Where you excelled was in the home.
As Husband, and Friend.
Oh noble heart! God rest your soul,
The multitudes will pay
A tribute to your memory as
They walk the streets today.Southern Standard, McMinnville, TN. Thurs, 17 Dec 1953, p. 6.
