TNGenWeb Project

A Circle of Friends

A general public mail list has been created by Rootsweb called TNWARREN. This list is open to all interested parties, but by subscription only. No one will be able to post to the list unless they are subscribed to it. This way, advertisers will not be able to “spam” the list.

No commercial activities are allowed on this list! No flames are allowed, nor are threats, promoting e-mailbombings, roll calls, or passing along chain letters. Do not send unsubscription requests to the whole list. Please practice good Internet “Netiquette.”

Before you subscribe, you might want to read RootsWeb’s Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

This list will accept subscriptions for the following counties.

Cannon
Coffee
DeKalb
Grundy
Van Buren
Warren
White

You may subscribe to the TNWARREN list in mail mode by sending a message to TNWARREN-L-request@rootsweb.com
In the message window, it should only contain the word:

subscribe

To Unsubscribe, use the word:

unsubscribe

Or, you may subscribe to the DIGEST mode, where about twenty posts are grouped together and then sent to the subscribers. Digests produce less clutter in your mailbox, but replying to an individual message may require a little extra effort.

If you prefer to subscribe to the digest mode, you should send the command instead to TNWARREN-D-request@rootsweb.com
and of course, the word:

subscribe

No other words should be in the message window. Any “sig lines” should also be removed from the window.

A Little History

White County was erected in 1806. Warren County was erected in 1807 from land taken from White County. Warren County in its earliest days was considerably larger that its present size.

Cannon (1836), Coffee (1836), DeKalb (1837), Grundy (1844), and Van Buren (1840), all received part of their land from old Warren.

Warren County is one good place to look for records of early families of Cannon, Coffee, DeKalb, Grundy, and Van Buren. White County has a few very early records of Warren County.

Bedford, Bledsoe, Franklin, Marion, Rutherford, Smith, and Wilson Counties were Warren’s old time neighbors. Don’t overlook these counties for possible source material. It is a proven fact that our ancestors were able to cross county lines.
