Archer Cemetery

AFRICA CEMETERY

Located beside 161 Buttermilk Road and directly behind 157 Buttermilk Road in the Boones Creek section of Washington County. This cemetery has been neglected and is very overgrown. There were at least 50 fieldstones marking graves and probably more that were unmarked.

Leuvenia R. Hale, 1908-1972 [Funeral home marker] said to be wife of Fred Hale and sister of Paul Rueben.

AFRICAN-AMERICAN CEMETERY

(On the Jake Leonard Property)

The graves are located approximately 275 yds off Malone Hollow Rd., Jonesborough, TN behind the second house in the wooded area. Twenty-nine graves unmarked and marked with a fieldstone were found. One old funeral home marker was located with no writing. The late Catherine Malone told a neighbor that she remembered the deceased being brought in a purple hearse.

ALLISON-BORING-HODGES CEMETERY

ARCHER CEMETERY

Located on Hairtown Road, Jonesborough, TN, across from Archer Lane, which is the road leading into the Archer Farm at 140 Archer Lane.
GPS location: 36.18.15N 082.31.00W

The cemetery is well care for and is still owned by the Archer family. Many unknown graves in the cemetery are only marked by a stone (approx. 13). The cemetery is an excellent example of how a family cemetery should be kept. It has a wrought iron fence around it and sets back from the road. The small hill where the cemetery is located, is known as Rocky Point on the topographical map.
