NOTE: The information in blue is from the Washington County Tennessee Tombstone Inscription vol. I, c1977, p.151 by Charles Bennett; used with the permission of Loraine Rae. The text in black is information submitted by Dennis Slagle, dslage2@nc.rr.com. These gentlemen started numbering the cemetery from opposite ends.
Below the intersection of Ridgecrest Road and Sinking Creek Road, adjacent to 900 Sinking Creek Road on a wooded hill. The grave area is fairly free of underbrush; there are three very good specimens of boxwoods well over seven feet tall. Copied by Robert McGinnis, February 9, 1976.
This cemetery is completely over grown by trees, deadfall, and underbrush. Without knowing that a cemetery exists there, no one would ever see the cemetery without stopping and walking up a hill through woods and underbrush to the location. Looking closely, unmarked graves, field stones, and a few legible markers can be seen. The cemetery is below the intersection of Ridgecrest Rd .and Sinking Creek Rd. Coming from Cherokee Rd. on Sinking Creek Rd., you cross Ridgecrest Rd. and the cemetery is just after the first house on the right. A section of wood fencing is at the bottom of the hill. Just about the entire cemetery is covered by periwinkle. Several people who have lived there since the 1920's did not know the name of the cemetery, but knew it existed. The oldest marked graves (Webb and Ramsey) denote the people died in 1912. The latest was in 1983. It is hard to believe the cemetery has deteriorated that much in 18 years since the last burial. - Dennis Slagle, copied 2-16-2001.
