SULPHUR SPRINGS CEMETERY - Introduction

Sulphur Springs Cemetery is a large cemetery located in the 14th Civil District of Washington County, Tennessee . It is a well kept cemetery owned jointly by the Sulphur Springs Baptist and the Sulphur Springs United Methodist Churches, and is governed by a Board of Trustees selected by the two churches. It was started in 1903 by a group of citizens of the community who saw a need for a community cemetery which had been served mainly by family cemeteries until this time. Additional property was purchased in 1942, 1947 and most recently 1988 as the need for additional space became evident.
The cemetery is well supported by those who have purchased burial plots and those who have loved ones buried there. The annual Decoration Day is the second Sunday in June when folks pay their respect to their loved ones buried there.
Plots are available for the general public and are not limited to members of the two churches; they are priced very reasonably.
I have tried to present an accurate account of all the dates and to a certain degree all of the information that was on the stones of this cemetery. In some cases I have added some information that I was aware of, such as the maiden names of some of the ladies, relationships of people or some historical information that might be interesting to some individuals. Although I began this project in early January of 1998 and although there has been several burials since then I believe that I have been able to go back and insert all burials in their proper places as of October 25,1998.
Any mistakes that I have made are purely human and are certainly unintentional.
