BAKER

February 05, 1818, Solomon BAKER of White Co., TN purchased 80 acres of land in Randolph Co., IL. He also received 80 acres as "bounty" for service in War of 1812. On IL 1820 Census he is shown with 7, free, white people in his family, along with EIGHT "Free persons of color, servants or slaves." Based on family stories, I believe these 8 individuals may be Native Americans; possibility Cherokee. They could be Melungen or Black Dutch, too. They were shown in 1820 in IL but not with him as FPCs in 1830 on White Co., TN census. Any help identifying the 8 individuals appreciated.

BRYAN / BRYANT, MARLOW

Looking for my ggg grandmother Elizabeth. We are unsure of her maiden name spelling. Father may have been William OR Robert BRYANT. Mother may have been a CALHOUN. Elizabeth was born around 1816, and married Wilson Williamson Marlow around 1834-36. They had four children: Achsa (1836), James Robert (1838), Pleasant (1841) and Bethel (1843). She died young around the age of 25-27 shortly after the birth of her last child. I am a descendent of Bethel. Bethel is a strange name. I once saw a William Bethel MARLOW and wondered if my gg grandfather was named after this person. We believe that she and Wilson lived in Tennesse when first married and then moved to St. Claire Missouri. She died somewhere in Missouri, near St. Claire I would think. Does anyone have information on this family. I would love to hear from you. I have some information to share. Thank you, Vicki Walberg, Vacaville, CA.

HENRY, BURNETT, LONG

John HENRY was born in North Carolina ca 1787. "Probably born in Greene County, NC that later became Tennessee." This area, Greene Co., TN formed 1783 from Washington Co. TN which was actually considered as part of NC until 1790. John was found on a Tax list in Rhea, TN, 1808. A John Henry listed as SQUIRE. John served in the military in Newport, Tennessee, 17 October 1813. (Newport may refer to a place in Cocke County, TN or it more likely refers to a Military Camp in Rhea County, TN.) He married Miss B urnett? before 1817. She was most likely only about twelve years of age. John was listed as the head of a family on the 1820 Census in White County, Tennessee. His brother George was also listed on that census. John was listed as the head of a family on the 1830 Census in White County, Tennessee. He married Sarah (Sallie) Long in Tennessee, by 1834. His father may have been George HENRY.
