SIMPSON

Richard Simpson, 8th child of Jesse and Mary, of Va. , was a Presbyterian minister. He wore a long frock coat and tall hat. He was a wealthy man and owned several slaves, land, and other property. The slaves did the farming. The 1870 census shows names of slaves who remained in his home after they had been freed: Mariah(black), mother and son, Mason(black), Edward(mulatta), Frank(mulatta). Moriah had also one boy named Richard, a girl named 'Sal'; perhaps others, but at the time of the 1870 census, the "others" were not in the Simpson household. Mariah, at the time a mother of a babe herself, also wet-nursed Martha 'Mattie' Arminda Simpson, when her mother Amy Arminda died. Amy Arminda was Richards 3rd wife.Various family members recall that Mariah was bought for $800 dollars when she was just 16 years old and that she and her family took the name Simpson. Possibly some of her descendents still live in White Co,Tn. Mariah was born in Ga., but is believed to have died in White Co. TN, in Oct. of 1919.

DAVIS, KIRBY

Am searching for background on the family of Rubin/Ruben/Reubin DAVIS, born approximately June, 1865, in White County, TN. I believe I may have found his parents on the 1880 soundex index, located in White County, TN. I was looking for Rubin, and this is the only Rubin I found on the soundex who is about the right age: DAVIS, Samson, white, male, aged 41, born in TN; Sarah, wife, 38, TN; Mary Lou, dau, 17, TN; Reuben, son, 14, TN; William, son, 13, TN; Carter, son, 9, TN; Winney Caroline, dau, 8, TN; Nancy Jane, dau, 5, TN; John Zebedee, son, 3, TN; Samson, son, 1, TN. Ruben DAVIS married Liley Ann KIRBY, born around Aug, 1870, in Warren Co, TN. Ruben and Liley DAVIS lived in White Co, TN, for several years, and they show up on the 1900 TN census in White Co. Between 1900-1913 they moved to Bardwell (Carlisle Co), KY. I only know about the following children (I know there were others): John, b Oct 1886 TN; Henry, b Feb 1890 TN; Nettie, b Jun 1892 TN; Elmore, b Dec 1898 TN; Edna, b Sept 1913 Bardwell, KY.

KIRBY, DAVIS

I'm searching for information about Liley Ann KIRBY, apparently born around Aug, 1870, in Warren Co, TN. She married Ruben (various spellings) DAVIS (born around June, 1865, in White County, TN). They apparently resided in White County, TN for a period of time, later moving to Bardwell (Carlisle Co), KY. They had at least eleven children, and I only know about five of them (dates according to information on 1900 census): John Lee DAVIS, b. Oct 1886 TN; Henry DAVIS, b. Feb 1890 TN; Nettie DAVIS, b. June 1892 TN; Elmore DAVIS, b. Dec 1898 TN; Edna Irene DAVIS, b. Sep 19, 1913 Bardwell, KY.
They show up on the 1900 census in White County, TN, but moved to Bardwell, KY, sometime before 1913. Edna's birth certificate indicates there were eleven children born to the couple but only 7 living at the time of Edna's birth. I don't know if those children were born in Tennessee and/or Kentucky.
If anyone has information about this family please contact me.

FARLEY, MEDLEY, SIKES, WHEAT

Judy Schwank  Sat Oct 9 9:46am 1999
I believe that my Great great grandfather was Henderson FARLEY and that he was married to Rebecca MEDLEY, probably from the Central Tennessee area. Their known children were Dee Witt FARLEY, Nancy FARLEY, and Mary Belle FARLEY. Only Mary Belle is listed on any census as having been born in Tennessee. The children are living with an uncle, William FARLEY at the time of the 1880 census. Mary Belle (Molly) is then 13 years old, so they would have been in Tennessee at least until late1860s. Appear to have moved to Kentucky where the last two children were born, and then both parents seem to have disappeared. My mother remembers someone talking about a fire before regarding this family, but we are unsure if that may be what happened to the parents. There is no further record of either Henderson or Rebecca. Molly FARLEY married a SIKES. Her tombstone gives her parents names as listed above.
