WALKER, DOWDEN, JENNINGS, LONG, TUCKER, ATKINSON, ABSHER.

I am trying to discover information about my Walker family heritage, because so very little is known the history maybe hard to understand. Because this WALKER family spent a great deal of time moving from place to place, it may be hard to keep up, so let me start with the facts. Garner Mack Conco WALKER 1829-1906 and his first wife Jane DOWDEN-1872 were born somewhere in the state of Tennessee. Absolutely nothing is known about Jane DOWDEN, by this family other then, she was the wife of Garner Mack Conco WALKER. It is apparent that the family moved back and forth from Jefferson County Illinois, near Mt. Vernon, and White County, Tennessee, because their children where born in both Counties and states. The children of Garner Mack and Jane DOWDEN WALKER were: Amanda, George, W. S. “Doc”, Robert, Freeman, Mary, Charles, and Susan WALKER. In 1852 my gr gr Grandfather Robert Lewis WALKER was born in White County, Tennessee, and shortly after his birth in 1857 the family moved back to Jefferson County.

POPE

"Tenesseans in Civil War" lists John T. Pope as serving as Private, Company I, 13th Tennessee Cavalry (a/k/a 8th TN Cav., Dibrell's). I hope to determine whether this man is my cousin John T. Pope, born in TN (prob. Montgomery Co.) abt. 1838. "My" John T. Pope was son of John M. Pope, b. 1802, and wife Rebecca Looters. John M. Pope was born prob. in SC or in area of Savannah, GA, and is known to have lived in Jackson/Gadsden Co. area (in FL panhandle nr. Apalachicola River) from about 1820 until his marriage or shortly thereafter. John M., Rebecca and sons appear in 1840 and 1850 censuses in Montgomery Co., TN. John T.'s brothers are James (11 in 1850, thus b. abt. 1839) and Green J. Pope (5 in 1850, b. abt. 1845).
Company I of Dibrell's TN Cavalry was raised in White County, TN, so that's why I'm looking here. Has anyone access to 1860 census for White Co.? Does it show John M. Pope b. abt. 1802 or my subject, John T. Pope, b. abt. 1838? CSA Pension app. was filed from Bledsoe Co., TN.
